Join us in celebrating Afarin’s retirement after more than 20 years with CCI.

Since joining the Settlement Department in 2002, Afarin has brought steady dedication, care, and deep commitment to supporting newcomers. ACCI settlement counsellor for 24 years, she is known for her warmth, her energy, and her ability to connect across languages—speaking English, Farsi, Dari, German, and French.

Her legacy includes founding and leading CCI’s Seniors Program for over a decade. An important place of connection where newcomers aged 50+ found friendship, support, and belonging through weekly gatherings filled with stories, food, music, and laughter.

Even in retirement, Afarin will continue to support the program she built as a volunteer.

Thank you, Afarin, for your years of service and impact on so many.

In your community for 70 years, and still finding fun new ways to connect with you.

This weekend, CCI was proud to be part of the very first Best Fest Ottawa, a new festival celebrating the best in local food, businesses, and community connection at the Aberdeen Pavilion.

From checking tickets to connecting with attendees throughout the weekend, our staff and volunteers had a great time being part of an event that brought thousands of Ottawans together to kick off the summer season.

CCI represented by Sirine, Sofiane, Hayfaa, and Mussie, recently participated in a Pilot Design Workshop in collaboration with the 613 Refugee Initiative. The workshop focused on strengthening refugee sponsorship efforts, particularly the Groups of Five (G5) model, and brought together partners to co-develop innovative approaches to supporting newcomers and refugees.

The session was highly collaborative, with participants contributing insights to help shape the Connectors Ottawa pilot project. Discussions focused on identifying strengths, gaps, and challenges within the G5 sponsorship model, while exploring practical solutions.

The day moved through three key phases: shared framing of current realities, mapping the pilot process including roles and service gaps, and designing solutions to improve outreach, information flow, and coordination. The flexible structure encouraged open dialogue and idea development throughout the session.

CCI is proud to contribute to this initiative and looks forward to continued collaboration with partners to enhance refugee sponsorship processes and improve outcomes for newcomers and refugees.

A look into some of the fun we got up to at yesterday’s LASI Coalition Professional Day.

What a way to wrap a day of connecting, catching up and putting team work to the test (shoutout to for the sprinkling of healthy competition) 🎈

The LASI (Local Agencies Serving Immigrants) coalition spent the day together reflecting on our shared work around the themes of wellness, resilience and compassion.

We explored ways to support our communities, our work and ourselves with care and intention.

Thank you all who took part, and a huge thanks to those who made this fantastic day possible!
