THE GARDEN PROJECT | PART 3 🥬🍅🫜

The moment we’ve all been waiting for. It’s harvest season!

What started with a donation of seeds and an idea to create a garden together has grown into an incredible crop. A reminder of what can flourish when people have the space, resources, and opportunity to nurture a goal.

The same is true when newcomers are welcomed into a community: they bring skills, knowledge, experiences, and so much potential to contribute.

As we enter the giving season, we’re reminded that helping people feel at home is something we can all play a part in. Because the best of Canada is found in how we show up for one another.

Whether it’s giving an hour of your time as a volunteer, or making a small monthly donation, your support helps newcomers rebuild their lives and shape the future of the country we’re proud to call home.

Help us put Home is Here into practice.

Leaving behind a home, a community, the life you’ve worked to build, and everything familiar is never an easy decision.

It takes courage and a vision for what safety and stability could mean for you and your family.

These are the stories of settlement at CCI.

Are you a CCI client? We want to share your story in our next impact report. The CCI Impact Report highlights the programs and people that make up CCI. Client journeys are at the heart of that.

Send us an email with your name and what you’d like to share about being a CCI client and newcomer, and we’ll be in touch!

What does it mean to put “Home is Here” into practice?

While residents at CCI’s transitional homes may stay for only a few months as they work toward securing employment, education, and long-term housing, we know how important it is for that time to feel welcoming and supportive.

At St. Joseph’s, a simple offer to donate seeds became the beginning of a resident-led vegetable garden; a shared project that gives residents the opportunity to contribute, spend time outdoors, and create a space they can enjoy together.

Because building a sense of home is about more than providing a place to stay. It’s about creating environments where people can participate, connect, and begin building their lives in Canada.

Thank you to Gabriel, and the residents and staff who helped bring this garden to life.

Countdown until harvest time!

Through free online programming, career guidance, and connections to employers, we're helping talented newcomers put their skills to work in communities across Canada.

We're also proud to partner with healthcare employers, connecting them with qualified, job-ready professionals who are ready to make a difference.

As we look back on June, we've got to give a huge shoutout to our friends at the Centretown BIA for including CCI in their Bites of Centretown.

The team at Bread & Sons served up delicious pizza, with $2 from every slice donated to CCI.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps ensure newcomers have the support they need to build successful lives in Ottawa. Bringing their skills, talents, ideas, and entrepreneurship to our communities, workplaces, and neighbourhoods.

Thank you to everyone who grabbed a slice and supported CCI.

Keep an eye out for the next Bites of Centretown feature 👀

Imagine arriving in Ottawa, leaving behind everything you've known in search of safety, opportunity and belonging.

No familiar streets, no support system but plenty of hope, drive and passion.

Now imagine someone meeting you there, helping you find housing, understand the system, learn the language, connect with community, and begin to feel like you belong.

And a few short years later, you’re standing shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors, celebrating the country that gave you that new beginning.

This Canada Day, help make this journey possible. Your support ensures that newcomers can find safety, stability, and support when they arrive.

Today we celebrate the country we all call home. A day to celebrate the values, traditions, and experiences that make Canada unique.

While also celebrating the diverse stories that shape our country.

So we asked our team, what does Canada mean to you?

07/01/2026

Happy Canada Day from the CCI team!

We asked our staff a simple question: How many Canada Days have you celebrated?

The answers were as diverse as our team itself.

Some of us grew up celebrating July 1 with fireworks and BBQs, and some of us only discovered Canada Day after arriving here and experiencing it for the very first time.

That’s what makes this city, and country, stronger: the mix of experiences, cultures, and perspectives that shape how we live, work, and grow together. At CCI, we're proud to be a part of that journey.
