Moral injury happens when healthcare professionals can't provide the care they know their patients deserve. The solution isn't asking already dedicated teams to be more resilient. Many of the answers lie higher up: stronger accountability, greater transparency, and health authorities and governments that listen to and work with frontline healthcare professionals to improve care.

πŸ€– Could AI help reduce emergency department wait times?

CAEP member Dr. IIitea Kina is developing SIENA (Sunnybrook Intelligent Emergency Nowcasting and Assessment), an AI-powered chatbot designed to help emergency physicians anticipate patient needs, improve workflow, and enhance the patient experience.

By collecting information while patients wait, SIENA aims to support faster, more informed clinical decision-making and reduce time spent in the emergency department.

CAEP is proud to support innovative research like this through the Emergency Medicine Advancement Fund.

πŸ’™ Interested in future research grants, awards, and funding opportunities? Join CAEP with a prorated membership and enjoy benefits for the rest of 2026 and all of 2027.

Burnout, staffing shortages, and rising patient volumes reflect a system under strain. But they do not have to define the future of emergency care.

Thank you to our CAEP members for advocating for patients, supporting colleagues, and helping build a stronger emergency care system.
