On 6 June 1944, seven members of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps lost their lives while serving with 14 and 22 Field Ambulance during the Normandy landings.

Their names will soon be permanently commemorated on the Canadian D-Day Monument at Juno Beach, alongside the 381 Canadians who fell on D-Day.

The Royal Canadian Medical Service Association (RCMSA) is pleased to recognize Colonel Paul Charlebois, CD, CCFP, FRCPC, who will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces on 30 September 2026, following 37 years of service.

Col Charlebois joined the CAF in 1989 and transferred to the Regular Force through the Medical Officer Training Plan in 1992. Throughout his distinguished career as a Medical Officer and specialist in Internal Medicine, his service took him across Canada and around the world, including deployments to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Iraq, along with support to numerous domestic and international operations.

Most recently, he served as 00390 MOSID Advisor and Chief of Medical and Surgical Specialists, helping guide the newly established occupation through its early development.

L'Association du service de santé royal canadien (ASSRC) est heureuse de souligner le départ à la retraite du colonel Paul Charlebois, CD, CCFP, FRCPC, qui quittera les Forces armées canadiennes le 30 septembre 2026, après 37 années de service.

Le Col Charlebois s'est joint aux FAC en 1989 avant d'être transféré dans la Force régulière dans le cadre du Programme de formation des médecins militaires en 1992. Au cours de sa remarquable carrière comme médecin militaire et spécialiste en médecine interne, son service l'a mené partout au Canada et à l'étranger, notamment en Bosnie-Herzégovine, en Afghanistan, en Sierra Leone et en Irak, en plus de sa participation à de nombreuses opérations nationales et internationales.

Plus récemment, il a occupé les fonctions de conseiller du GPM 00390 et chef des spécialistes médicaux et chirurgicaux, contribuant au développement de ce nouveau groupe professionnel.

Hayley is a student-athlete at Sacred Heart University, where she studies Sport Psychology and Sport Management while competing in NCAA Division I Rugby.

“Receiving the RCMSA Educational Bursary means a great deal to me as a student-athlete studying Sport Psychology and Sport Management, as I believe strongly in the connection between physical activity and mental well-being. Playing Division 1 NCAA Rugby has taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of maintaining a strong body to support a healthy mind. This bursary will help me continue pursuing my education while competing at the highest level.

🕊️ 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐦 – 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 (𝐑𝐞𝐭'𝐝) 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐌𝐜𝐍𝐞𝐢𝐥

It is with sadness that the Royal Canadian Medical Service Association (RCMSA) has learned of the passing of Sgt (Ret'd) Michael John McNeil on 12 July 2026, at the age of 77.

Mike proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years (1971–1996) as a Medical Assistant and Physician Assistant, serving in Canada, Germany, and during the 1991 Gulf War with the Canadian Forces Field Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Throughout his career, he served with dedication in a variety of clinical, operational, instructional and field appointments.

On behalf of the RCMSA, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Jo-Ellen, his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Rest in peace, Mike. Thank you for your service. 🌹

C'est avec tristesse que l'Association des Services de santé royal canadien (ASSRC) a appris le décès du sgt (à la retraite) Michael John McNeil, survenu le 12 juillet 2026, à l'âge de 77 ans.

Mike a servi avec fierté au sein des Forces armées canadiennes pendant 25 ans (1971 à 1996) à titre d'assistant médical et d'adjoint au médecin. Il a servi au Canada, en Allemagne ainsi que lors de la guerre du Golfe de 1991 avec l'Hôpital de campagne des Forces canadiennes en Arabie saoudite. Au cours de sa carrière, il a occupé diverses fonctions cliniques, opérationnelles, d'instruction et en unités de campagne.

Au nom de l'ASSRC, nous offrons nos plus sincères condoléances à son épouse, Jo-Ellen, à sa famille, à ses amis et à tous ceux qui ont eu le privilège de servir à ses côtés.

The Royal Canadian Medical Service Association (RCMSA) warmly invites its members to attend the Combat Medic Graduation Parades taking place this August at the Combat Medic Training Depot (CMTD) in Ottawa.

Over the past several months, the CMTD has trained 192 Regular and Reserve Force Combat Medics in support of the new occupation and the operational readiness of the Canadian Armed Forces. These graduation parades celebrate the successful completion of that training and the next step in their military careers.

We encourage RCMSA members to join us in recognizing their achievements and welcoming these graduates into our military medical family.

Au cours des derniers mois, le DIMC a formé 192 membres du Personnel médical au combat de la Force régulière et de la Réserve afin de soutenir cette nouvelle occupation et la préparation opérationnelle des Forces armées canadiennes. Ces parades de graduation soulignent l'aboutissement de leur formation et le début d'une nouvelle étape de leur carrière militaire.

Nous invitons les membres de l'ASSRC à venir souligner leur réussite et à accueillir ces diplômés au sein de notre famille médicale militaire.
