Below2°C is premised on the overwhelming consensus that we must not exceed two degrees Celsius of global warming.

2°C of warming is an important threshold. Holding warming well below two degrees Celsius is fast becoming the singular goal.

Renewables generated more than 30% of US electricity in the first half of 2026

Renewable energy sources generated 30.2% of the electricity in the United States in the first half of 2026, up from 27.8% in the corresponding period last year, according to US Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.

As it noted, electricity generation from renewables grew 10.9% in the period, compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, with utility-scale solar generation rising by more than a fifth (21.6%), while small-scale solar increased 13%, hydropower grew 10.1% and wind generation rose 6.5%.

At the same time, electricity generation from natural gas and nuclear increased by 1.8% and 1.7% respectively, while coal generation fell 11.3%, the data showed.

"Climate activism is failing to create the level of desire for change needed to avert the worst of the climate crisis. This was never going to be easy, but it becomes even harder when we talk about “power of the people”, when it is the people that we are actually up against. WE are the problem."

Given that all economic, political and social systems consider change their worst enemy, and considering that all forms of power eventually become incredibly corrupt, the question that comes back to haunt our civilisations, again and again, is: how on Earth does one change the system?

Week after week, wildfires & extreme heat continue to devastate communities across North America and Europe ... but there's still good news happening, and inspiring climate action too. Read on!

☀️ Good news: The world's first "solar railway" laid 48 panels between active train tracks in Switzerland to generate 16,000 kWh in its first year. The technology is now expanding to other countries!

🔥 Not-so-good news: Wildfires across France and Spain have driven more than 300,000 people from their homes, in a summer so extreme that this part of France has already seen more days above 40°C in 2026 than in the entire 105 years from 1920 through 2025.

🌱 What you can do: Meet the Climate Joy Project in Ashland, Oregon, where everyday people share how they're putting climate solutions to work!

This week, share one thing you learn here. Conversation matters more than you think 💚 https://www.talkingclimate.ca/p/the-worlds-first-solar-railway
