🥪🌞 Celebrate International Picnic Day with us! 🌞🥪

Did you know that picnics over 100 years ago looked surprisingly similar to the ones we enjoy today?

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, families and friends would gather outdoors to share meals made with fresh, local ingredients. Many brought fruits and vegetables they had grown themselves or purchased from nearby farms. Special treats were often baked just for the occasion, such as fresh loaves of bread, cakes, and pastries packed carefully into picnic baskets.

While picnics were a popular social activity, it wasn't unusual for people to enjoy a peaceful meal outdoors on their own. Whether gathering with others or enjoying a quiet moment in nature, picnics have long been a simple way to slow down and appreciate the day.

The biggest difference? Today's picnic baskets might include a few more store-bought snacks, but the joy of sharing a meal outdoors remains the same.

This summer, pack a lunch, bring the family, and stop by Goulbourn Museum! Our picnic tables are ready and waiting for you to enjoy a relaxing meal surrounded by local history.
