Poilievre says he won’t raise the retirement age, but his party has already lied about raising the retirement age once before. They committed in their 2011 platform that they wouldn't cut pensions, then they went ahead and did it anyway. And they did it from Davos, Switzerland of all places.

What’s to stop him and the Conservative Party from doing it again?

There are all kinds of ways to cut CPP and OAS without changing the retirement age, and Poilievre's record clearly shows that he's in favour of reducing these programs, one way or another.

US President Donald Trump is threatening to siphon up freshwater sources like the Great Lakes and the Columbia River.

As he muses about ripping up longstanding agreements that protect and manage shared water sources, our union stands with Indigenous peoples who have been the stewards and caretakers of water across Turtle Island since immemorial.

Indigenous peoples’ struggles to defend water in their territories from land development and resource extraction show us the way forward in our fight for water justice.

Protecting this precious life source starts with respecting Indigenous peoples’ right to a meaningful say over land and water in their territories.

Water is life, and on World Water Day, CUPE renews our commitment to fight to protect water sources and public water services. Read our statement: https://cupe.ca/event/world-water-day

CUPE is committed to fight all forms of racial discrimination. Our union stepped up our work on this commitment with CUPE’s Anti-Racism Strategy. The strategy’s 10 goals provide a comprehensive six-year road map for challenging and dismantling systemic racism.

To mark March 21, CUPE recognizes the contributions of Indigenous, Black and racialized members who have strengthened our movement with new ideas and perspectives and have helped break down barriers by promoting inclusion and equity.

CUPE members affirm Montreal Declaration to fight back against Trump assault on Canadian workers

Today, at CUPE’s Building Strong Locals Conference in Montreal, over 500 CUPE members from across Canada adopted the Montreal Declaration. The declaration acknowledges the formidable contribution that the labour movement has made to building what makes us proudest to be Canadian: our public health care, public education, and so many more cherished public services. The declaration also sets out CUPE’s demands for a worker-focused response to the existential crisis posed by Donald Trump’s assault on Canadian workers.

Donald Trump's aggression against Canada has reminded us just how overdependent we are on the United States.

It is reminding us of just how beholden we have become to the goodwill of their billionaire oligarchs. The answer to American billionaires is not Canadian billionaires.

Canada’s response cannot simply be “Buy Canadian.” The CEO of Loblaws is still going to be happy to price gouge you on maple syrup while wearing a maple leaf hat.

Canada’s response has to be about protecting the Canadian model. About strengthening public services. About protecting our communities. And building an economy that works for workers - first and foremost.

On January 27, CUPE Ontario will comrades and allies around the world in marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The day was established by the United Nations in 2005 to honour the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others from persecuted groups who were brutally murdered by the N**i regime. We commemorate both victims and survivors by recommitting ourselves to the ongoing fight against antisemitism, racism, xenophobia, and all forms of discrimination.
