The Rotary Club Of West Ottawa has graciously and
consistently supported TFKO for the past 12 years.

In most recent years, they have supported our pilots
and now full programs for neurodivergent youth to learn
to bike and skate.

These are small programs with huge outcomes. We
have not met a youth we could not teach to ride. The
environment is smaller; the number of people and
outside distractions is lower. The one-on-one attention
is what makes it a success, and we could not do it
without our sponsors' support.

Some organizations can't wait to slow down for the summer.

At Trips for Kids Ottawa, summer is just another opportunity to help young people build confidence, learn new skills, and discover the joy of riding a bike.

That's why our Learn-to-Ride program in Carleton Place is already in full swing, providing tailored bike instruction for neurodivergent children and teens in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Our programs are designed to meet youth where they are. Every rider learns differently, and every milestone—no matter how big or small—is worth celebrating.

Whether it's after-school biking in the spring and fall, skating through the winter, or specialized summer programming like this, we're committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for more youth to thrive.

Because confidence doesn't take the summer off... and neither do we.

💚 Some people volunteer for a season. Others make it part of the rhythm of their lives. 🚲

This month, we're honoured to share Mike Jamieson's story.

Mike has served as a ride leader, skating volunteer, Board Director, and former Board President with Trips for Kids Ottawa. When asked what impressed him most, he didn't mention the trails or bikes, but the young people.

Watching youth from the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre encourage one another, celebrate each other's successes, and experience the freedom of being outdoors reminded Mike that our programs are about so much more than cycling. They create space for confidence, connection, healing, and hope.

As Mike puts it:

"I simply can't imagine not doing it. What could I possibly be doing that's more worthwhile?"

On May 1st, the Trips For Kids Ottawa crew travelled east to support a parent-led initiative at St. Michael’s School in Vanier.

After the tragic loss of one of their students in a biking incident, the school community came together to organize a Bike Rodeo, and TFKO was more than happy to be a part of it!

We provided bike safety checks and tune-ups, and with funding from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, we ensured that every student who needed a helmet left at the end of the day with one that was a perfect fit.

While we weren’t able to undo the loss, we felt satisfied that students went home knowing the importance of a properly fitted helmet, thanks to some very brave watermelons!

The wheels are turning at Trips for Kids Ottawa.

Since launching our spring after-school ride program in the first week of May, we are now welcoming 33 girls every Tuesday and 32 boys every Wednesday out on the trails and pathways.

What may look like “just a bike ride” is really so much more.

These rides are building confidence, friendships, resilience, and a sense of belonging for youth across our community. Every week, kids are showing up excited to move, learn, and support one another outdoors.

Programs like this are only possible because of the support of our volunteers, donors, and community partners. Thank you for helping us create spaces where youth can thrive.

Some children need more than access to equipment. They need tailored support to learn in ways that work for them.

Thanks to support from , we are expanding opportunities for autistic children, youth, and teens to learn to ride in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.

This means more first rides. More confidence. More independence.
