This past Monday, Brian and I had the honour of accepting a Community Supporter Award from the Dalhousie Food Cupboard on behalf of the BSSC crew, in recognition of the fundraising work we’ve helped spearhead over the past several years.

Last year, with an incredible group of supporters and volunteers, we raised over $24,000 in support of the DFC, and are working to build on that momentum this year. (Stay tuned! Friday Dec 18…)

The Dalhousie Food Cupboard provides emergency food support to individuals and families in Ottawa’s Chinatown/Centretown community, where demand has nearly doubled in recent years. They are a critical community resource with a mighty team of volunteers who show up and care.

I’m really proud that the community we’ve built together can give back in a real way. This sort of support is only possible when you show up, and we’re grateful that you continue to do that every time.

Today is World Hunger Day. A day that shouldn’t exist, an oxymoron to life itself.

We, at the Dalhousie Food Cupboard, service thousands of neighbours in Ottawa. Yet our existence shouldn’t be a necessity to ensure that Canadians don’t go to sleep hungry.

Food is the most basic human right and no one should have to worry about when and where their next meal will come from, but many do, 1 in 4 Canadians to be exact.
