Day 4 of ACA's 2026 Virtual Conference, How Does That Help Me? Making Archival Theory Relevant to Daily Practice, brought our conference to a close with another day of insightful presentations, emerging research, and meaningful conversations.

We started the day with our final ACA Office Hours and then moved into our Poster Session, where presenters explored topics including born-digital government records, web archiving q***r and trans histories, international perspectives on rethinking archival practice, computational approaches to oral history, and modernizing health sciences archives.

In the afternoon, attendees joined two concurrent Emerging Voices sessions featuring new and emerging professionals sharing research on archival education, records management, digital preservation, archival narratives, and community-based archival initiatives. These sessions highlighted the innovative work and fresh perspectives shaping the future of the archival profession.

We concluded the conference with our keynote roundtable, The Reconciliation Framework: From Theory to Practice, featuring Sadie Anderson, Erica Hernandez-Read, Ellyn Vanderkerkhove, and Lillanohna (Lily) Naytowhowcon. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, the panel explored how archival institutions can move reconciliation from theory into meaningful action.

In case you missed it – 2027 ACA Conference details were announced! We are looking forward to hosting you at the Fort Garry Hotel next year in Winnipeg June14-17th. We will be doing a call for ACA Program and Host Team Members. Stay tuned for details!

Happy International Archives Day and Day 2 of the ACA's 2026 virtual conference!

We kicked off the day with ACA Office Hours, just as we’ll do again on Wednesday and Thursday morning. If you have questions, ideas, or concerns, this is your opportunity to connect with ACA staff.

Our Opening Plenary, How does that help us? Unlearning "hungry listening" in the archives, reflected on listening, knowledge sharing, and sensory archival practice. Thank you to moderator Hadley Howes and panelists Anna Robinson-Sweet, Kennedi Johnson, Stephanie Niu, and Temple Marucci-Campbell for their flexibility today and for delivering such thoughtful and engagement presentations. You can see some highlights from their presentations in our stories.

The afternoon featured 12 fantastic presentations this afternoon from 29 presenters. They explored topics including making women more visible in archival records, biographical research and description, approaches to cataloguing visual and material culture, preserving and amplifying underrepresented histories, digitization and digital preservation, archival processing and accessioning practices, sustainability and funding challenges, student engagement and representation, archives in higher education, and the experiences of community archives interns navigating the relationship between theory and practice.

A huge thank you to all of today’s presenters, chairs, volunteers, staff, and attendees today for making these discussion happen; this is what International Archives Day is all about!

Join us again tomorrow and let’s do it all again!

Day 1 of the ACA's 2026 virtual conference, How Does That Help Me? Making Archival Theory Relevant to Daily Practice, is in the books - and what a great start!

We kicked things off with The Archives and Technology Unconference (TAATU) which brought archives professionals, newcomers, and thought-leaders together to share ideas, explore technology and digital culture, tackle real-world challenges in real time, and have some geeky fun along the way.

Two pre-conference workshops were held, 1) Collaborative Strategies on Addressing Accessibility Barriers within Canada’s Archives with Michael Marlatt, and 2) “How Do I Make This Work for Me?” Utilizing Transcription Tools to Enhance Collection Discoverability, by Caitlin Bakker, Crista Bradley, and Alyssa Hyduk.

ACA Student Chapter leaders also met to exchange ideas, discuss successful events and engagement strategies, and explore new ways to connect and collaborate throughout the year.

The day also included an informative update from Library and Archives Canada, with discussions on the Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP) and the current state of archival advocacy in Canada.

We wrapped up the day with a welcome reception and a screening of Parade: Q***r Acts of Love & Resistance.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today! We can't wait to continue the conversations this week.

Welcome to Day 1 of the ACA 2026 Virtual Conference.

While this week's proceedings will be presented virtually, we would like to gratefully acknowledge that the ACA Office, and its employees work on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial.

We recognize the Algonquins as the customary keepers and defenders of the Ottawa River Watershed and its tributaries. We honour their long history of welcoming many Nations to this beautiful territory and uphold and uplift the voice and values of our Host Nation. We respect and affirm the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. We honour the commitments to self- determination and sovereignty we have made to Indigenous Nations and Peoples. We recognize the historical oppression of lands, cultures and the original Peoples in what we now know as Canada. We believe education and learning about the past contributes to the healing and decolonization - a long and difficult process here and in other nations.
