SCI Canada is urging the Government of New Brunswick to preserve access to hunting and fishing opportunities for responsible sportsmen and women, rather than limiting participation to Canadian residents only.

Visiting hunters and anglers have long been part of New Brunswick’s outdoor traditions, supporting local outfitters, small businesses, rural communities and conservation efforts.

We believe decisions surrounding hunting and fishing access should be guided by sound wildlife management, conservation science and sustainable practices. Policies should support wildlife, strengthen communities and preserve New Brunswick’s reputation as a welcoming destination for responsible outdoor recreation.

SCI Canada welcomes continued dialogue with provincial leaders and remains committed to working toward a balanced, evidence-based approach that benefits conservation and the communities that depend on it.

The Supreme Court of Canada has granted SCI leave to represent hunters in CCFR’s challenge to the federal government’s ill-advised ban on “assault-style” fi****ms - which actually encompasses hundreds of fi****ms regularly used for hunting in Canada and abroad.

SCI is thrilled to stand up for hunters in this critical case, and to partner with Canadian Coalition for Fi***rm Rights to challenge a ban based on politics - not practicality.

The legislation could support the creation of a NEW fi****ms advocate for the territory. A fi****ms advocate could:

💥 Support and advocate on behalf of lawful Yukon fi***rm owners and those impacted by fi****ms
💥 Support education, training, and safety initiatives on fi****ms
💥 Advise the Minister of Justice on fi****ms issues
💥 Communicate with the public on fi****ms to hear and understand Yukoners’ perspectives

The Government of Yukon strongly opposes the Government of Canada’s Assault-Style Fi***rms Compensation Program (ASFCP) and related prohibitions. It's been confirmed the federal government will not use territorial police resources to collect fi****ms. The amnesty period for the fi****ms that were legally acquired and were prohibited by the federal changes remains in place until 90 days after the Supreme Court of Canada can consider cases before it relating to the prohibitions and the ASFCP.
