Ottawa Orchid Society Each meeting varies and can include lectures, demonstrations or hands-on workshops, as well as plants for sale and a raffle.

Founded in 1978, the Ottawa Orchid Society (OOS) aims to promote and assist in every way the knowledge, appreciation, culture, study, development, improvement and conservation of orchids. We are a society that holds monthly meetings every third Sunday of each month, from September to May, where orchid growers, orchid enthusiasts, as well as beginners can come and discuss a variety of topics in relation to orchids and orchid growing. Refreshments are available at meetings for a nominal charge.

The Ottawa Orchid Society is participating in the world-renowned Chelsea Flower Show in London UK this year. Dr. Jean Hollebone is our representative from the OOS stepping up to the Genius Bar and answering many questions on orchid conservation from the public.

The display “Orchids in the Wild – The Beauty of Nature” includes orchids from Great Britain, India, the United States and Canada, and won a Silver-Gilt medal (closer to a Gold than Silver). The conservation and protection of natural orchid habitat is a focus of international concern. The effort has been organized by John Parke Wright IV, Chairman of the Orchid Conservation Chelsea with a group of experts from around the world.

John Alexander, a representative from the Canadian Orchid Congress, the Southern Ontario Orchid Society and our own conservation committee joins Jean at the show.

La Société des orchidées d'Ottawa participe cette année au Chelsea Flower Show de Londres (Royaume-Uni), un événement de renommée mondiale. Le Dr Jean Hollebone est notre représentante de l'OOS. Elle s'est présenté au Genius Bar et a répondu aux nombreuses questions du public sur la conservation des orchidées.

L'exposition "Orchids in the Wild - The Beauty of Nature", qui comprend des orchidées de Grande-Bretagne, d'Inde, des États-Unis et du Canada, a remporté une médaille d'argent et de vermeil (plus proche de l'or que de l'argent). La conservation et la protection de l'habitat naturel des orchidées est une préoccupation internationale. Cette initiative a été organisée par John Parke Wright IV, président de l'Orchid Conservation Chelsea, avec un groupe d'experts du monde entier.

Have your heart set on a beautiful orchid you noticed in one of the show's exhibits? Regret not buying that plant that caught your eye in the vendors area? Well, it's not too late to get those blooms into your home! As seen during Orchidophilia, Roehampton Orchids (https://roehamptonorchids.ca/) bring healthy tropical plants to the Canadian market with their extensive collection of orchids, from Goodyera (Jewels) to various Vandeae including Phalaenopsis. Located in the heart of Toronto, they source rare and unique varieties from countries around the world. And the good news is that they ship country-wide! They will also visit the Ottawa Orchid Society at one of its monthly meetings in the fall for another opportunity to shop. Become a member so you don't miss it!

Do not worry, you still have time to visit us today at Ottawa’s Algonquin College, 1385 Woodroffe Ave., Building D., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are looking to treat yourself or find a unique gift for an orchid enthusiast, come see the selection offered by Alexander Arts (https://www.alexanderarts.ca/). His table features prints of Ontario's wild orchids, cards, orchid collectibles – cups, saucers, silver deposit ware – botanical prints, scarves, jewelry, books and stamps.
