Mental health doesn't exist in isolation.

This World Mental Health Day, we're reminding our community that mental wellbeing is shaped by more than individual circumstances.

🏠 Safe and stable housing
🀝 Meaningful social connections
πŸ’™ A sense of belonging
🌱 Income security and access to essential services
πŸ«‚ Strong community support systems

These are all important factors in creating healthier, more inclusive communities.

At the Social Planning Council of Ottawa (SPCO), we recognize that supporting mental wellbeing also means addressing the social and economic conditions that affect people's everyday lives.

Because a healthier Ottawa starts with communities where everyone has the opportunity to feel supported, connected and included.

Together, let's continue building a city where wellbeing is a shared priority. πŸ’š

Connection, learning, and community on the Ottawa River!

On September 30, our Ethnocultural Seniors Network Program set sail aboard the Ottawa River Queen! Participants enjoyed great company, beautiful sights, and learned about historic landmarks along the water.

Gathering on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation made the day even more meaningful, offering a quiet space to reflect on the land’s history and build shared understanding.

At SPCO, tackling senior isolation is all about creating genuine opportunities to connect, share, and belong.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this memorable day to life!

Today, on the National Day of Action for MMIWG2S+, the Social Planning Council of Ottawa stands in solidarity with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people, their families, survivors, and communities.

Creating truly safe and dignified communities requires more than wordsβ€”it demands systemic change, active listening, and unwavering support for Indigenous-led solutions.

We encourage our community to take action today by listening, learning, supporting local Indigenous organizations, and honoring those who have been taken.

Today, we honour. We reflect. We listen. 🧑

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the children who never returned home, honour residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism.

Reconciliation is not confined to one day. Building a more equitable and inclusive Ottawa requires continued learning, meaningful relationships, and support for Indigenous voices and Indigenous-led solutions.

As a community, we all have a role in carrying this work forward; today and throughout the year.
