Our Story

Impact Hours is a free website launched in 2018 to connect adults aged 55+ with Ottawa non-profit organizations for short-term volunteer opportunities.

Christine Franklin, a federal public servant and active volunteer in the community, created Impact Hours as her ‘passion project’ after being inspired by the former Governor General David Johnston in his efforts to promote volunteerism to build a stronger, more caring Canada.

Spotlighted by the Council on Aging of Ottawa as an innovative age-friendly initiative, Impact Hours creates an online platform:


  • to provide adults 55+ with easy access to a growing inventory of short-term volunteer opportunities instead of longer term commitments;
