Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa Together with over 1000 volunteers, we foster, facilitate and support one-to-one and group mentoring relationships with children in need of a special friend.

As Canada’s leading child and youth mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire and empower young people to reach their full potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa is the premier mentoring organization in Ottawa that provides rewarding, life-changing, fun experiences for children/youth through programs that enrich the lives of all involved.

We serve over 1000 children and youth annually in programs supported by volunteers based on the principles of safe and quality programming. We focus on enabling children to hope and dream and realize their potential. Grands Frères Grandes Sœurs d’Ottawa est le principal organisme de mentorat à Ottawa qui fait vivre aux enfants et aux jeunes des expériences gratifiantes, amusantes et déterminantes grâce à des programmes qui enrichissent la vie de toutes les personnes concernées. Avec l’aide de plus de 1000 bénévoles, nous favorisons, facilitons et soutenons l’établissement de relations de mentorat individuelles et de groupe avec des enfants qui ont besoin d’un ou d’une amie spécial-e. Plus de 1100 enfants et jeunes prennent part annuellement à nos programmes offerts par des bénévoles respectueux des principes de sécurité et de qualité. Nous cherchons à donner aux enfants la possibilité d’espérer et de rêver et de s’épanouir pleinement.

Big Steps to Success is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa’s mentoring program focused on connecting children and youth ages 6–24 who are in care or have experienced adoption with mentors who share similar lived experiences.

Through these intentional matches, young people have the opportunity to connect with a relatable role model who understands some of the unique experiences that can come with being fostered or adopted.

Big Steps to Success helps young people build confidence, trust, resilience, and meaningful connections while giving them someone in their corner as they navigate life’s challenges. 💙

For a young person, having a consistent, caring adult in their life can mean having someone who listens, encourages them, celebrates their wins, and reminds them of what they’re capable of.

Mentorship is built through those everyday moments of connection. And over time, those moments can add up to something meaningful.

Meet Kait! 👋

Kait Price is our Manager of Marketing and Communications, helping share the stories, impact, and work of BBBSO with our community.

A fun fact? Kait grew up in Victoria, BC, and moved around throughout her life as part of a military family!

To Kait, mentorship is about filling a need in a young person’s life. Sometimes, that means being there to talk through a challenge or experience they feel no one else understands. It’s not always about the big moments. Sometimes, simply having someone who listens and understands can make a young person feel seen. And everyone deserves to feel seen. 💙

We’re so grateful to have Kait helping tell the story of mentorship and the meaningful connections happening across our community every day.

Yesterday looked a little different for the BBBSO team! 💙🐴

We spent the morning with Unbridled Coaching for a team-building experience with horses!

One of our biggest takeaways was the importance of staying grounded and being aware of the energy we bring into a space. Horses are incredibly responsive to the energy around them, which gave us a new outlook on how our own presence, communication and reactions can impact those around us.

Through hands-on activities, we explored how those same lessons can carry into the workplace, staying present, communicating clearly, building trust and being intentional about how we show up for one another.

There were plenty of laughs, a few challenges and lots of memorable moments along the way.

A huge thank you to the Unbridled Coaching team for creating such a meaningful experience for us! 💙

Think back to the adult who made a difference in your life. Now, you can be that person for someone else. 💙

Just one hour a week can make an incredible difference.

Through our In-School Mentoring Program, mentors connect with a young person right in their school, giving them someone to talk to, learn from, and count on each week.

Right now, we’re looking for adult mentors 18+ in Renfrew County who are ready to show up, build a meaningful connection, and make a difference close to home.
