Aphasia Centre of Ottawa

Aphasia Centre of Ottawa The ACO provides services and support for people with aphasia and their families. See more!

The Aphasia Centre of Ottawa is part of a network of independent Centres that exist throughout the province. These Centres are essential to ensuring that families living with aphasia have equal provision of quality health care and social services. Aphasia Centres ensure that when individuals who have aphasia leave hospital the discharge plan includes an appropriate referral for communication and emotional support. This support helps them remain living in the community for as long as possible.

“When millions unite with a shared purpose, we don’t just give what we can—we create real, tangible change. Each donation, each act of generosity, is a building block for community solutions that actually make a difference.”

is ONE WEEK away! Thank you for supporting the Aphasia Centre of Ottawa.

What is ?
Aphasia is a communication disorder which is caused by a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other neurodegenerative disorders, such as Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA).
A person with aphasia may find it difficult to:
-Speak 🗣
-Understand spoken words 👂
-Read 📖
-Write ✍️

Individuals living with aphasia may struggle with social isolation. Social connection is critical for our collective well-being, and ACO helps to provide accessible communication and support.
