There’s a cross-border rally happening on June 20 at 2pm in the run-up to the CUSMA review as part of the Days of Solidarity happening across Canada, Mexico and the United States over the months of May and June.

The American contingent will be at Freedom Park in Buffalo the Canadian side will assemble directly across the Niagara River at the Niagara River Public Boat Launch at 184 Niagara Blvd in Fort Erie.

We want to reject the politics of division inherent to Trump’s rigged trade deal and show that workers across Canada, Mexico and the United States are united in solidarity.

Bring signs and banners showing your solidarity if you can!

MPP Wayne Gates will also be speaking at the event.

The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) joins legal, privacy and technical experts in expressing serious concerns about Bill C-22, An Act Respecting Lawful Access, in its current form.

While the CAJ recognizes the importance of law enforcement and national security agencies’ legitimate need to access information to investigate crime, this access requires judicial oversight and must be limited to what is necessary and proportionate to prevent overreach and abuse. It must also be balanced with the Charter rights to privacy and freedom of the press.

Bill C-22 in its current form fails to get this balance right and is a sledgehammer approach to addressing issues identified by law enforcement that compromises the privacy and security of all Canadians. The consequences for journalists, vulnerable sources and whistleblowers are especially acute.

Read the CAJ's full submission to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security relative to Bill C-22: https://caj.ca/submission-to-the-standing-committee-on-public-safety-and-national-security-relative-to-bill-c-22/

On this the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen massacre, no amount of censorship or suppression by the authoritarian Chinese regime will keep us silent.

Today marks the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Crackdown.

No amount of censorship and suppression by the Chinese government can erase or rewrite the truth of the crackdown or silence the calls for accountability.

For 37 years, instead of acknowledging its human rights violations and delivering justice for the victims, the Chinese government has been doubling down — surveilling victims' families and arresting and jailing those who simply stand in solidarity with them.

Yet, covering up bloodshed does not make it disappear. From mainland China to Hong Kong to diaspora communities worldwide, people continue to keep the memory of 4 June alive with creativity and resilience.

The families of the victims and the people of Hong Kong will not walk alone.

This year, Amnesty International handed over tens of thousands of petitions to the Hong Kong government, while supporters in Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, and Taiwan are joining solidarity actions on and around 4 June.

We stand in solidarity with families demanding justice and a full investigation into the crackdown and call for the immediate release of Chow Hang-tung and Lee Cheuk-yan — already detained for over four years simply for keeping the memory of 4 June alive.

This collaboration aims to establish clear standards to protect creators' work, ensure fair compensation, and guarantee that innovation develops with respect, equity, and transparency.

In the current climate, this coordinated movement is crucial to building a sustainable and ethical digital ecosystem for the benefit of all Canadians.
