October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse. It can affect people of all ages and backgrounds, and it isn’t always easy to recognize from the outside.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and free from violence.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, support is available. Reaching out to a trusted person or support service can be an important first step.

Family Services Ottawa offers support programs for individuals and families navigating difficult and unsafe situations.

Healthy boundaries help us communicate what we are comfortable with, what we need, and what we can realistically take on.

They can sound like:

“I’m not available tonight.”
“I need some time before we continue this conversation.”
“I can help, but I can’t take that on right now.”
