When women have access to safe, affordable and trusted childcare, they have greater opportunities to participate in the workforce.
In Jordan, WUSC-supported home-based nurseries are strengthening the care economy while creating opportunities for women, children and families.
Khadija opened her nursery to support her household and help put her niece through university. Today, she is also helping other women pursue their own ambitions.

For Yasmin, a mother of three, having a trusted childcare provider means she can continue building her career as a lawyer.
These stories show why investing in the care economy matters. Quality childcare doesn't just support children—it helps expand women's economic opportunities, strengthen families and build more inclusive communities.

🤝 We were pleased to welcome the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State for International Development, and Canada's Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Louis-Martin Aumais, to Khadija's nursery, where they heard directly from women about the impact accessible childcare is having on their lives.

Supported by Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada, this initiative is expanding access to quality childcare while creating new pathways to employment and entrepreneurship for women across Jordan.

Lorsque les femmes ont accès à des services de garde d'enfants sûrs, abordables et de confiance, elles ont davantage la possibilité de participer au marché du travail.

En Jordanie, les garderies à domicile soutenues par l'EUMC renforcent l'économie des soins tout en ouvrant des perspectives aux femmes, aux enfants et aux familles.

Khadija a ouvert sa garderie pour soutenir sa famille et aider sa nièce à poursuivre ses études universitaires. Aujourd'hui, elle aide également d'autres femmes à poursuivre leurs propres ambitions.

Pour Yasmin, mère de trois enfants inscrits à la garderie de Khadija, l'accès à un service de garde de confiance lui permet de continuer à bâtir sa carrière d'avocate.

Ces récits montrent l'importance d'investir dans l'économie des soins. Des services de garde de qualité ne bénéficient pas seulement aux enfants : ils élargissent les opportunités économiques des femmes, renforcent les familles et contribuent à bâtir des communautés plus inclusives.

💡Meet Perfect. When she first entered the Accra Technical Training Center, she planned to study computer engineering. But a chance encounter led her on an unexpected path: welding.

Through an intensive training program, Perfect developed hands-on skills in welding and thrived. Today, she plans to pursue her studies in computer engineering and build a career that combines welding with her passion for technology.

✨Our work in is focused on improving access to quality skills training for young women like Perfect. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, our new initiative is expanding into seven regions to reach 20,000 women, opening doors in non-traditional, high-growth fields like energy and construction.

💡Faites la connaissance de Perfect. Lorsqu'elle a franchi les portes du Centre de formation technique d'Accra, elle avait l'intention d'étudier le génie informatique. Mais une rencontre fortuite l'a menée vers une voie inattendue : la soudure.

Grâce à un programme de formation intensif, Perfect a développé des compétences pratiques en soudure et s'y est démarquée. Aujourd'hui, elle veut poursuivre ses études en génie informatique et bâtir une carrière qui allie la soudure et sa passion pour la technologie.

🎓 From Refugee Camp to Global Opportunity: Kuon's Story

Meet Kuon Chok Deng, from South Sudan — proof that dedication and the right support can change a life's trajectory.
While studying at Somali Bantu Secondary School, Kuon began using Smiley Tutor to practice mathematics, earning Smileycoins that allowed him to redeem a tablet he used for further studies outside the classroom. Through the weekly reimbursement, he was able to redeem his Smileycoins from time to time to purchase essential textbooks and other learning materials. Despite the challenges of studying in a refugee camp, Kuon's consistency and hard work never wavered. That dedication paid off: Kuon's strong academic performance in Mathematics helped him secure a World University Service of Canada (WUSC - EUMC) scholarship to study in Canada, opening the door to a brighter future.
Kuon's journey shows what's possible when opportunity meets determination.

This past week, we brought together 90 young leaders from across Canada for the WUSC National Training. These young volunteers play a key role in implementing the Student Refugee Program and advocating for increased access to postsecondary education for refugees in Canada. As we approach the new school year, they are equipped to support the newest cohort of students and build more welcoming communities. Thank you to all our participants and to our partners for supporting this year's event.

La semaine dernière, nous avons réuni 90 jeunes leaders de partout au Canada pour la Formation nationale de l'EUMC. Ces jeunes bénévoles jouent un rôle clé dans la mise en œuvre du Programme d'étudiantes et étudiants réfugiés et dans la défense d'un meilleur accès à l'éducation postsecondaire pour les personnes réfugiées au Canada. À l'approche de la nouvelle année scolaire, elles et ils sont mieux outillés pour soutenir la nouvelle cohorte d'étudiantes et étudiants et contribuer à bâtir des communautés plus accueillantes.
