Maarsii to everyone who visited the Self-Government Booth during the 33rd Annual General Assembly.

The conversations at this year’s AGA build on citizen engagement completed over the past two years, as well as the recent Constitution Summit.

This fall, the draft Constitution will be shared for province-wide citizen consultation and engagement. After that, citizens will decide whether to adopt the MNO Constitution through a province-wide ratification vote.

This Constitution belongs to the citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. Thank you for helping build the future of Métis self-government in Ontario.

Attention Early Childhood Educators!

Join the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Branch on September 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET for It Starts with You: Building a Culture of DEI with Awareness and Action.

This interactive workshop is designed to help early childhood educators become stronger allies to Métis, First Nations, and Inuit children. Participants will explore the role of personal and systemic bias, deepen their self-awareness, and learn how culturally responsive and inclusive practices can foster children’s sense of identity, belonging, and well-being.

Through virtual activities and discussion, the session will also examine the responsibility of educators to build understanding, respect, and inclusive learning environments grounded in Indigenous perspectives, as reflected in the 94 Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

MNO Regional Councillor Mitch Case, representing the Huron-Superior Regional Métis Community, attended the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s third annual Citizens Gathering in Alberta alongside Evan Accettola, President of the MNO Youth Council and PCMNO Youth Representative.

Councillor Case, who also serves as Provincial Secretary for Métis Rights, Inter-Governmental Relations and Communications, as well as Provincial Secretary for Education, delivered opening remarks on behalf of the Métis Nation of Ontario.

In his remarks, Councillor Case recognized the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s 98 years of continuous Métis governance and the strength of the Elders, youth, citizens, and leaders gathered.

“I cannot express how inspired I am every time I come here — by your Elders and your young people, and by all of the work you are doing here in Alberta,” said Councillor Case.

Maarsii to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government for the warm welcome and for continuing to build strong connections across the Métis Nation.

What does sustainability look like through a Métis lens?

A new study co-authored by MNO Environment and Climate Change Manager Jesse Fieldwebster explores the development of the Manyèr èkawlawjik michif de traké (MEMT), a Métis-focused ecological footprint calculator designed to reflect Métis knowledge, language, values, and ways of life.

Developed in partnership with Métis youth, knowledge holders, and community members, the tool helps connect traditional practices with modern environmental decision-making while supporting community-driven solutions for the future.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this innovative project that brings Métis perspectives to the forefront of sustainability research.

At the 33rd MNO Annual General Assembly, MNO citizens attended the Love Yourself First Panel to learn more about breast health, screening, and supports available to Métis citizens.

The panel brought together health experts to share information on breast screening, culturally sensitive programs, and resources for those navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.

These important conversations don’t stop at the AGA. The Love Yourself First program continues to provide education, awareness, and support to Métis citizens throughout the year.

Looking to bring Métis stories into early learning classrooms?

Join us for a virtual Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. EDT to explore The Real Life Superhero: The Powley Family board book.

This early learning resource supports literacy development while introducing young children to Métis history, values, and storytelling. At the heart of the story is Steve Powley, a Métis rights champion whose legacy helps children explore courage, inclusion, and standing up for what is right.

The session is ideal for educators and caregivers looking to bring Métis culture and stories into early learning environments. It will be facilitated by the MNO’s Early Learning and Child Care Advisors, and participants will receive a free copy of the board book while supplies last.
