The Gloucester Historical Society is pleased to announce our fall presentation on Sunday, November 8, 2026 2 p.m. at the Fred Barrett Arena, Lions Hall (upstairs), 3280 Leitrim Road, Ottawa. This is a free presentation open to both GHS members and the general public.

Our speaker will be John Barrett, who will tell his story of growing up in Leitrim and his days as an NHL Hockey Player and his thoughts of the NHL today. This will be of particular interest to those who are involved with hockey or are interested in the sport.

We will also honour Remembrance Day with the story of Gloucester native, William Robinson, who joined Canada's only 'all-Black' regiment during World War I.

This newsletter covers two former motels on south Bank Street near Leitrim, Gay's Motel (later renamed Day's Motel and 4 Lane Motel), and Peter Pan Motel. We provide information on the Lefebvre and Lynch families who built the motels. Also discussed are Fenton Bakeries Ltd., The Dog House (a hot dog stand), Shady Nook Restaurant and Homewood Nurseries. All had a connection to the vicinity of the two motels.
