On 25 March 2024, 1 Dental Unit held a Change of Command ceremony in Ottawa for the incoming and outgoing Commanding Officers. The ceremony, presided over by Brigadier-General Chenette, saw outgoing Colonel (Col) Gingras (right on picture) pass command of 1 Dent Unit to Col Shaw (left on picture).
Col Gingras graduated Laval University’s dental school in 1996, and practiced civilian dentistry for five years before joining the CAF in 2001. During her 23 years of service, Col Gingras has held a variety of clinical and command positions and has deployed on several CAF operations including OPERATION PALLADIUM in Bosnia in 2003, and on OPERATION ATHENA in Afghanistan in 2010. The RCDCA extends a well-deserved Bravo-Zulu – your contributions were greatly appreciated.
Col Shaw graduated from the University of Montreal’s dental school in 2000. She has served in many roles throughout her career, from command to clinical positions. In response to demands of the COVID-19 pandemic, Col Shaw was appointed Senior Staff Officer to the Surgeon General to provide statistical and epidemiological support, and then appointed as Commanding Officer (CO) of Canadian Forces Health Services Headquarters.
The role of CO comes with several unique challenges and many diverse responsibilities. With Col Shaw’s wealth of experience, 1 Dent Unit members can rest assured they are in good hands.

Le 25 mars 2024, la 1re Unité dentaire a tenu une cérémonie de passation de commandement à Ottawa pour les commandants entrants et sortants. La cérémonie, présidée par le brigadier-général Chenette, a vu le colonel (Col) Gingras (à droite sur la photo) passer le commandement de la 1re Unité dentaire au col Shaw (à gauche sur la photo).
Le col Gingras a obtenu son diplôme de l'école dentaire de l'Université Laval en 1996 et a pratiqué la dentisterie civile pendant cinq ans avant de se joindre aux FAC en 2001. Au cours de ses 23 années de service, le col Gingras a occupé divers postes cliniques et de commandement et a participé à plusieurs opérations des FAC, notamment l'OPÉRATION PALLADIUM en Bosnie en 2003 et l'OPÉRATION ATHENA en Afghanistan en 2010. L’ACDRC lui adresse un Bravo-Zulu bien mérité - vos contributions ont été grandement appréciées.
Le col Shaw a obtenu son diplôme de l'école dentaire de l'Université de Montréal en 2000. Tout au long de sa carrière, elle a assumé de nombreuses fonctions, du commandement aux postes cliniques. En réponse aux exigences de la pandémie COVID-19, le col Shaw a été nommée officier d'état-major principal auprès du chirurgien général pour fournir un soutien statistique et épidémiologique, puis a été nommée commandant (cmdt) du quartier général des services de santé des Forces canadiennes.
Le rôle de cmdt s'accompagne de plusieurs défis uniques et de nombreuses responsabilités diverses. Grâce à la vaste expérience du col Shaw, les membres de la 1re Unité dentaire peuvent être assurés qu'ils sont entre de bonnes mains.
