Take a Veteran to Dinner Night offers civilians the opportunity to personally thank active and retired members of the Canadian Forces for their service and sacrifice. Civilian hosts are encouraged to buy tickets on the behalf of veterans and then both hosts and veterans gather for a delicious meal and memorable evening at Tudor Hall. COVID-19 has caused us to rethink the event. The result was send

ing care packages to our vets. This initiative happened in 2020 and the response was amazing. The vets loved being remembered in this way, so the care packages are back for 2021.

As we continue to deliver thank you gift boxes across the National Capital Region, we would like to recognize the artistic talents of Sara Jolliffe. Sara, a Grade 7 student at Fisher Park Public School, created this amazing artwork for our vets and we know they are going to love it! We are sending a big thank you to Sara for her kindness and to our sponsors Calian Group and Bayshore HealthCare Ltd. for making this year’s gift box initiative possible!

It was nice to see Mr. John Preece for a short visit while delivering gift boxes this week. Mr. Preece enlisted in July of 1944 and served with The Royal Regiment in France, Germany and the Netherlands. The gift box initiative was made possible this year by the generous support of Bayshore HealthCare Ltd. and Calian Group. Mr. Preece and his partner, Bonnie, have attended Take a Veteran to Dinner Night for over 10 years and we are all looking forward to a return of the in-person event.

We are sending out a big thanks to Bayshore HealthCare Ltd. and Calian Group for their continued support of the gift box initiative. The gift boxes are filled with amazing items from local and/or indigenous-owned businesses. We will finish up deliveries across the National Capital Region in the coming days. We do have a limited number of unassigned gift boxes and if you know a veteran who would like one please email [email protected] with a request.

We are saddened by the news of her Majesty's passing. Her reign saw tremendous change on political, social, technological and environmental fronts. Her grace and strength through it all are unmatched. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family.

Thousands of handmade wreaths, meant for a ceremony to honour fallen servicemen and servicewomen have been stolen. Friends and volunteers spent weeks making these wreaths.

6,024 wreaths were to be placed on veterans' headstones this upcoming Sunday. Approximately 3,000 were taken from a rural area just outside of Maxville, Ont. this past weekend.

“We come back early on Sunday morning and out of 5,000 wreaths wrapped, there’s 3,000 wreaths missing. Someone has come and taken an entire load,” says Bob Tessier who, along with his father and others, have been making the wreaths from wild grape vine.
“We’ve been wrapping wreaths for almost two weeks,” he says, “A complete distraught, distracted, shocked moment, to even fathom the idea that somebody would do that.”
