Building a hospital many thought would never happen

When the proposal to build Queensway Carleton Hospital was rejected three times, former CEO Garry Cardiff kept pushing until the vision became a reality. From rural fields and construction trailers to a vital healthcare centre, QCH now serves half of Ottawa’s population in growing areas such as Stittsville, Barrhaven, and Kanata.

June is National Indigenous History Month

At Queensway Carleton Hospital, we recognize that learning, reflection, and relationship-building are important parts of advancing reconciliation, Indigenous health equity, and culturally safer care.

This month, we invite staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, and community members to:
• Listen to Indigenous voices and perspectives
• Learn from Indigenous stories and knowledges
• Explore books, films, music, and stories by First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and Urban Indigenous creators
• Reflect on how this learning connects to your role and practice
• Carry that learning forward beyond June
