🤠✨ Spurs, Sparkles and a whole lot of horsepower!
 
What a night! A SOLD-OUT crowd of 500 joined us for Spurs & Sparkles 2026. Presented by RBC this incredible night raised $201,250 in support of Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation! 💫
 
From show jumping and soccer challenges to some very creative golf cart driving, the fifth annual Get Up & Gallop brought the competition — with Team FACES Magazine racing their way to the top of the podium! 🏆

Luke the Toastmaster 🎤

When Luke Sequeira, Manager of Infection Prevention and Control and Clinical Risk, moved to Ottawa in 2024, he was also stepping into his first management role at QCH. Looking to grow as a leader and communicator, he joined Toastmasters and found a community that helped him develop both.

Toastmasters is an international organization focused on developing public speaking, communication, and leadership skills.

One of Luke's favourite parts of the program is sharing stories drawn from his health care expertise. Through speeches that offer a behind-the-scenes look at the realities of health care, he helps audiences gain a deeper understanding of what health care workers experience every day.

Toastmasters has also helped Luke grow as a leader. By completing a leadership-focused pathway, he developed skills that have strengthened his ability to communicate ideas, align teams around goals, and lead with confidence. He credits those lessons as an important part of becoming a better manager.

After a rafting injury left Natalie with severe swelling in her leg, she was urged to visit the Emergency Department. Over two days of care—including diagnostic imaging, an ultrasound, and follow-up in the ED—she experienced compassionate, patient-centred care every step of the way

Natalie was moved by the kindness she encountered at Queensway Carleton Hospital, which helped turn a frightening experience into one where she felt seen, supported, and cared for.

Meet Anne Brackstone, a former Nurse Educator!

Since 1987, she took up various roles at QCH including Staff Nurse, Nurse Educator, and Manager of Training and Development.

Anne explains the roles that Nurse Educators played in the early days and how they helped establish many of the standard practices that continue to shape care at QCH today.
