Leaf blower phase-out
Thank you very much for joining our movement to phase out gas-powered leaf blowers. We believe that banning gas-powered leaf blowers (GLBs) is an incremental step in our quest for solving the problems of noise pollution, air pollution, and environmental damage caused by those tools. Our first steps in phasing out GLBs involve education, outreach and adaptation.
Across the U.S., hundreds of cities and counties have passed laws restricting or banning the use of leaf blowers. Some places have limits on what time of day leaf blowers can be used, while others have specifically forbidden gasoline-powered units.
In Canada, Beaconsfield , a suburb of Montreal has banned them during the summer and Vancouver Island’s Oak Bay is considering a ban. In Vancouver, leaf blower use is restricted to within 50 m of any residential premises between 8am and 6pm on weekdays or between 9am and 5pm on Saturdays. The use of leaf blowers in the West End has been prohibited.
We are developing calls to action in the coming months and we want to involve all the stakeholders in this debate, and make important efforts at ensuring social justice is served as we advocate for change.
