Ottawa, I have 2 things to say - first, don't forget to join us at the Ottawa International Airport on Sunday August 16th around 5pm, to welcome back our 2026 Canada Summer Games athletes and coaches!!

Second, I hope many of you will join us at the Ottawa Law Enforcement Torch Run on Tuesday August 25th!!

Timing of the event is as follows:
Athletes and Participants Arrive: 9:00 a.m.
Opening Remarks: 9:30 a.m.
Torch Run Begins: 10:00 a.m.

Sunday August 16th, 5pm - mark your calendars!! The Special Olympics Canada Summer Games Medicine Hat 2026 are now underway (see the great shot below of Coach Cathy giving the Coach's Oath at the opening ceremonies, en francais), but it is not too early to start planning for the return of our Eastern Ontario athletes and coaches!

Please join us on Sunday August 16th at 5pm at the Ottawa International Airport - Aéroport international d'Ottawa - YOW arrivals area to celebrate our heroes' return. They are arriving on WS612, with an ETA of 5:15pm.

Fall/Winter 2026-27 Sports Registration – Now Open!

We are now accepting registration for the Fall/Winter 2026-27 program lottery! To be eligible for the lottery, athletes must register before August 31st at 11:59pm EST. This applies for all sports that reach capacity. All registrations made by the deadline will be entered into the lottery.

1. Please read program descriptions that are available on our website before registering. https://ottawa.specialolympicsontario.ca/programs
2. Please do not register for multiple programs of the same sport.
3. Please do not register for multiple programs that overlap in time.
4. Please do not register for multiple programs on the same day if there is not enough time to travel between locations between the end of one program to the start of the next.
5. New athletes between ages of 13-21 are encouraged to start their Special Olympics journey by entering through our Youth Multisport (13-21) Program.
6. Athletes ages 7-12 can register for the FUNdamentals Program.
7. Athletes ages 2-6 can register for the Active Start Program.

Ways to register:
PREFERRED: Online - via https://soocommunity.crowdchange.ca/3717
Payment options: credit card, visa debit, Google pay.
Please register one athlete at a time.
Important: Please save your receipt when it is mailed to you. Receipts are mailed directly to the email provided at registration. The club treasurer may not have access to receipts.

OR: Mail-in – Registration form, waiver AND cheque (only payment option)

Please check out the Service Ontario website (https://www.ontario.ca/page/passport-program-adults-developmental-disability) for more information about the Passport program. Note that Special Olympics Ottawa does not facilitate funding or claims.

Last Saturday, 131 athletes from nine clubs across the Eastern Ontario region were at the Terry Fox Athletics Facility for an exciting day of competition hosted by Special Olympics Ottawa!

These amazing athletes competed in a variety of track events, including the 30 m wheelchair race, 50 m, 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1,500 m and 3,000 m races, as well as field events such as shot put, standing long jump, running long jump and javelin.

A very special thank you goes to Sarah Healy for her dedication and organization in planning this tournament, as well as the many coaches, officials and volunteers whose efforts and time make opportunities like this possible.

And thanks as always to our wonderful photographer Melanie Murphy!

Fall/Winter 2026-27 Registration – Coming Soon!

Special Olympics Ottawa will be accepting registration to the Fall/Winter 2026-27 program lottery between August 1st and August 31st! Please continue to watch our website for updates.

Due to the overwhelming success with online registration, this will continue to be the preferred method for registration. For those unable to register online, options will be available for mail-in registration. Please note that Special Olympics Ottawa is no longer offering an option for in-person registration.

More information on all options will be communicated on Aug 1st through our website and social media platforms.
