What an incredible evening! The He Leads Vol. 5: “The Weight We Carry” was really powerful, and it wouldn’t have been possible without all of you. For those who shared the event and encouraged colleagues, family members, friends and neighbours to attend, we sincerely thank you.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the .c , the Lukasa Library and the Ottawa Black Business Alliance for supporting this session and helping us create an environment for meaningful dialogue. A special thanks also to Faqrudin “Turtle” Ali from Ottawa Public Health - Santé publique Ottawa for coming through to share valuable resources with our guests.

Most importantly, we want to thank all the brothers who attended and shared in this experience. Thank you for showing up, participating, speaking openly and listening to one another. Your engagement created a space where we could reflect deeply, connect authentically and draw strength from our experiences.

As we move forward, the BHC executive team will remain committed to improving each session and finding new ways to deepen engagement. Our goal is to keep building spaces that encourage honest conversation, personal growth and stronger connections within our brotherhood community.

Until the next one.

Stay blessed!

He Leads Series: The Weight We Carry
Friday March 6
6:30 – 8:30 PM

Join the Brotherhood Coalition for the 5th event in their He Leads series. The focus will be on creating a safe and supportive space for Black males to speak about their hidden pressures and pain they carry, while also exploring healthier coping strategies that can support their mental wellbeing. This is a great opportunity to connect and network with each other and share a meal and learn more about the Brotherhood Coalition.

It was great to welcome Chuks Onwuachi and Natalie Taite to City Hall this week for a Black History Month celebration breakfast hosted by Councillor Rawlson King. These two Stittsville residents are leaders in Ottawa’s Black community.

Chuks was recently recognized by Black History Ottawa with the Community Builder Award for his work with The brotherhood Coalition (BHC). BHC works with Black men to support each other’s personal growth, well-being, and positive transformation.

Natalie is on the board of Ottawa Young Black Professionals, a group that provides mentorship, coaching, and knowledge‑sharing opportunities. Professionally, she’s led initiatives in anti‑racism and anti‑discrimination in the public service.

During Black History Month there are activities and events happening across Ottawa, and today was another opportunity to honour the historical contributions, cultural heritage, and achievements of leaders like Chuks and Natalie in our community.

In support of Ottawa Black Mental Health Week 2026, please join us for the next session of the Brotherhood Coalition (BHC)’s series, Vol. 5: The Weight We Carry, taking place on Friday March 6th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 235 Montréal Road.

BHC is hosting this session in collaboration with the Ottawa Black Mental Health Coalition, the Lukasa Library and the Black Entrepreneurs and Professionals of Ottawa–Gatineau.

The realities Black males navigate are not always visible or spoken about. The expectation to push through stress, pain and responsibility without pause often leaves little room for care or support. This special gathering is designed to create a safe and supportive space where Black males can speak honestly about these pressures and explore healthy ways to cope alongside others who understand.

Networking to follow: After the session, we invite all participants to stay and continue connecting with brothers over some Afro-Caribbean inspired food, drinks and snacks.

Space is limited, so please register on Eventbrite to secure your spot.

For The Brotherhood Coalition (BHC), Black History Month is a time to honour the legacy and leadership of Black communities in Canada past, present and future. It is a moment to celebrate the generations whose courage, vision and sacrifices have shaped our stories, culture and progress. Black history is a living legacy that deserves recognition, continuous learning and celebration throughout the entire year.

BHC carries this history forward by creating safe, inclusive spaces for growth, learning and collective action for our community, in particular Black males. Aligned to our pillars, we support wealth creation and ownership, mental health and well-being, emotional intelligence, education and strong family and personal relationships.

Let this month reminds us to challenge harmful stereotypes and amplify the voices, achievements and culture of Black communities in Canada. By honouring our history continuously, we uplift one another, lead with purpose and build a stronger, more united future for all.
