Acceptable scrap metals typically include common materials like steel, iron, copper, aluminum, and brass, which can be found in appliances, vehicles, electronics, and household items.
However, certain hazardous or contaminated items, such as those containing mercury, lithium, radioactive materials, or human waste, are not acceptable.
It's essential to remove non-metal components, prepare items for transport, and check with local recyclers for specific acceptance criteria, especially for materials like batteries and large appliances that may require special handling.
Commonly Accepted Scrap Metals
• Ferrous Metals:
Iron and steel, including items like car parts, appliances, and tools.
• Non-Ferrous Metals:
Copper, aluminum, brass, zinc, and lead, found in items like wiring, pots, pans, and fixtures.
• E-Waste:
Electronics such as computers, printers, monitors, and cables, which contain valuable metals like copper and gold.
• Appliances:
Washers, dryers, stoves, and refrigerators, provided they have had refrigerant tags removed and are otherwise clean.
Items Not Accepted
• Hazardous Materials:
Mercury, lithium, radioactive metals, propane tanks, and aerosol or spray paint cans.

• Contaminated Items:
Metals or containers that have any association with human waste or other harmful toxins.
• Unclean Metals:
Materials coated in hazardous substances like plastic, rubber, or wood should be cleaned before collection.
