Hello all!

Boulder Bash is a little over two weeks away, and we wanted to update people on how we intend to distribute prizes and also post the rules for the bouldering and lead comps.

On distributing prizes:

1) The winners of the competitions will get first choice of whatever prize they would like to claim from the prize pool (i.e. the table where we lay out all the prizes).
2) We have discretion to award prizes, and have done so in the past based on criteria such as, hardest sends (m/f), most V-points / climbs climbed, completing a project, best costume or other random and whacky criteria!

Also, as is tradition now, we have a prize for a tour + samples at Moo Shu ice cream. That prize is awarded by writing a poem. We will announce the theme of the poem during Boulder Bash, but wanted people to prepare their creative energy.

Now the rules:

Bouldering

1) Teams of up to four people

2) Each team member's highest two point value boulders are summed to create a team score

3) Scores are calculated based on a point system detailed in the scoresheet (link in bio)

4) Top team score wins

Lead

1) Teams of up two to three people

2) All point values of each team member’s top two climbs are summed and the team’s score is averaged by the number of people on it (so groups of 2 and 3 will be competitive with one another)

3) Scores are calculated based on a point system detailed in the scoresheet (link in bio)

4) The point system awards on-sites/flashes, while also awarding points for a climber completed with takes

5) Routes with a warning on The Crag regarding faulty gear will not be scored (eg, The Hulk and Applicator are not included on the Score Sheet)

6) Top team score wins

Speed

There will be a top rope set up on a still to be determined route and an “official” with a stop watch nearby. Bring your own belayer. Fastest time wins!

Mark the day! - Boulder Bash is returning on October 3! (Rain date is October 17 since the weekend of October 10 is Thanksgiving)

We hope everyone can make it out for another amazing day of community and climbing.

More details will be communicated closer to the event, but there will of course be a bouldering competition, hopefully some lead and the speed climbing may also return. And prizes, prizes, prizes!!! And most importantly there will be plenty of climbing, stoke and community. This is the a great event for both beginners and veterans - come on out!

Crag Care is hosting another Local Legends event! For those unfamiliar, this is a night where local climbers come together to share their passion, stories, and adventures in climbing.

Join us at 7:00 on Monday, May 11th at Lowertown Brewery - grab a bite, enjoy a pint, and listen to inspiring talks from:

Sam Hem - a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, but a relatively new climber, who will share his experiences with the Ottawa climbing community, the ACC, and how he went from brand new climber to experienced route developer in just a couple of years.

Upkar Bilkhu - longtime Ottawa climber and avid traveller, whose crazy tales from his recent year-long climbing road-trip with his wife Trish and daughter Priya will help you consider what you would do if your time was all yours.

Dan Snelson - While you might know Dan from the awesome sport lines he’s developed around Calabogie and Petawawa, he also loves to travel and climb and will inspire you with his stories of big wall climbing in Yosemite.

We hope to see you there for an evening of great stories, good company, and a shared passion for climbing!

We are attempting to monitor attendance through Eventbrite (tickets are free!) so we can work with the bar to ensure we have enough seating.The link to Eventbrite is in our bio and on the story. We won’t be checking tickets, and walk-ins are welcome, but signing up will help us ensure there’s enough space.

Clabogie’s newest crag is now open for climbing! 🧗‍♀️

Twenty-seven routes, from 5.8 to 5.12, both sport and trad. One kilometer approach, no canoe required. Some of the coolest rock you've ever seen. 🪨

Still buzzing off the stoke from this year’s ‘Bogie Boulder Bash, and we hope you are too! We are cruising into Rocktober with great conditions, and some exciting new development underway. 🧗

Hello again!

Boulder Bash is drawing nearer and you may have seen us update our story to include a link to the Eventbrite so we can track how many people will be participating and the bouldering and lead event! So please register if you know you are going, but if you decide to show up at the last minute you’ll still have a crew to hang with! You can find a link to the Eventbrite in our bio or via link in our story, which we will continue to publish leading up to the event.

We have also included the rules to each of the bouldering and lead competitions! Links to the scoresheets can also be found in the bio. We will also have some printed for the day of the event.

Helllllllo all!! 🪨🧗

Mark your calendars for September 27th—we’re thrilled to bring back Boulder Bash after an incredible 2024 event. The energy and excitement continue to grow, and we’re eager to build on that momentum by fostering community and driving development throughout the region.

So on the COMMUNITY front, this year’s Boulder Bash is expanding to include lead and speed climbing! That’s right, this year there’ll be fun on ropes, complete with a separate friendly competition which we will share more details about leading up to the event. Of course, there will still be a bouldering competition and we will also organize a trash pick up for those that want to do their part to keep our crags clean.

On the DEVELOPMENT front, we are actively encouraging climbers to contribute to the maintenance and development of crags in the Calabogie area by donating to the Crag Care GoFundMe (see link in bio). These donations directly support members of the development community by helping cover the hardware costs associated with route development. While many generous individuals have supported the GoFundMe over the years, this season we're encouraging climbers that enjoy the area, but haven’t donated before, to chip in. So to that end, tell your friends to support our local developers - every dollar helps!

Please spread the word of the event and get ready to have an awesome time! See you on September 27!
