LDA competitors & members - check out this award!

Dear LDA Members,

The London Dressage Association is pleased to introduce a new honour for our 2026 season: the LDA Schoolmaster Award generously sponsored by our own Sally Craggs! This award celebrates the exceptional horses who have shaped riders, and demonstrated the patience, generosity, and wisdom that only true schoolmasters possess.

Award Criteria

To be eligible for nomination, a horse must:

- Be at least 15 years of age
- Have been shown at a minimum of two LDA shows during the current season.
- Be nominated through a 500‑word essay describing why the horse exemplifies the qualities of a schoolmaster

Essays may highlight any type of schoolmaster:

- The seasoned upper‑level horse now teaching a developing rider advanced movements
- The steady, reliable partner guiding a new competitor through their first tests
- The trusted lesson horse who shows up every day, safely and kindly supporting riders of all levels
- Each essay will be reviewed by a three‑person selection panel.

The Award

The chosen horse and rider will receive $100, and a journal provided and presented by Sally Craggs.
Submission Timeline

We invite members to submit their essays by October 31, to this email address ([email protected])

This award is meant to honour the horses who have quietly and consistently made our sport better — the teachers, the confidence‑builders, the partners who have carried riders through milestones big and small. We look forward to reading your stories and celebrating these remarkable equine mentors.

Please stay tuned for more year end awards!

Our hearts go out to everyone ❤️🐴❤️
Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

The Alberta Equestrian Federation extends its heartfelt condolences to the owner and connections of Clark (Lino van het Heffelhof Z).

Clark was an accomplished show jumping champion who had recently begun a successful dressage career, earning the title of 2026 Alberta Dressage Association Champion. More importantly, he was a horse who was deeply loved by his people. He had a big personality, loved bananas, enjoyed licking his human and horse friends, and was known for flattening his ears in the warm-up ring as if to say, "Outta my way, I am coming through!"

Clark touched the lives of many throughout his career and will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for the joy, character, and friendship he brought to those around him.

Our thoughts are with all those mourning his loss.
