That’s a wrap on an incredible week at ! 🎬🍁

Our CEO and Film Commissioner, Sandrine De Saint Sardos , was on the ground representing the Ottawa Film Office, connecting with industry leaders and showcasing the opportunities that make Ottawa a premier destination for film and television production.

From inspiring conversations and world-class screenings to participating in TIFF: The Market and hosting our annual Ottawa Film Office industry dinner, the week was filled with valuable meetings, new partnerships, and exciting opportunities for collaboration.

A highlight of the week was the successful panel “Creative Canada Créatif: Any World. Any Story. Built in Canada.” Organized in collaboration with film commissions (such as the Ottawa Film Office) from across Canada, the session showcased the incredible versatility of Canadian locations, talent, and infrastructure, demonstrating how Canada can amplify co-production and bring virtually any story to life on screen.

We leave TIFF energized by the creativity, innovation, and momentum across our industry—and excited to bring that inspiration back to Ottawa’s growing screen sector.

C’est la fin d’une semaine incroyable au ! 🎬🍁

Notre chef de la direction et commissaire au cinéma, Sandrine Pechels de Saint Sardos, était sur place pour représenter Le Bureau du cinéma d’Ottawaa, nouer des liens avec les chefs de file de l’industrie et mettre en valeur les atouts qui font d’Ottawa une destination de choix pour la production cinématographique et télévisuelle.

Entre les conversations inspirantes, les projections de classe mondiale, la participation au TIFF : The Market et l’organisation de notre souper annuel de l’Ottawa Film Office destiné aux professionnels de l’industrie, la semaine a été riche en rencontres fructueuses, en nouveaux partenariats et en occasions de collaboration passionnantes.

L’un des moments forts de la semaine a été la table ronde très réussie intitulée « Creative Canada Créatif : Any World. Any Story. Built in Canada. » Organisée en collaboration avec des commissions cinématographiques (telles que l’Office du cinéma d’Ottawa) de partout au Canada, cette séance a mis en valeur l’incroyable polyvalence des lieux de tournage, des talents et des infrastructures canadiennes, démontrant comment le Canada peut stimuler la coproduction et donner vie à pratiquement n’importe quelle histoire à l’écran.

Nous quittons le TIFF revigorés par la créativité, l’innovation et l’élan qui animent notre industrie — et impatients de ramener cette inspiration au secteur de l’audiovisuel d’Ottawa, en pleine croissance.

The Ottawa Film Office was proud to produce Ottawa 200 – Celebrating Our Screen Legacy at the historic ByTowne Cinema , generously supported by the City of Ottawa.

This special event brought our community together to reflect on two centuries of storytelling in Canada's Capital. From rare archival footage and Indigenous, Black, Francophone, and 2SLGBTQI+ perspectives to acclaimed animation, independent cinema, and major productions, the story of Ottawa on screen continues to evolve.

Heartfelt thanks to those who made this celebration possible:

• Performers: Juno-nominated artists Cynthia Pitsiulak and Janice Oolayou for their breathtaking Inuit throat-singing, and Stéphane Paquette for his performance of Et Maintenant.

• Speakers: Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Tom McSorley, Sandrine Pechels de Saint Sardos, Kristel Viduka (ATO Media Inc.) , and The Raccoons creator Kevin Gillis.

• MC: Vladimir Jean Gilles, whose energy and warmth guided the evening.

Sincere thanks to the Bytowne Cinema team for hosting us in their iconic venue. Special thanks as well to our Ottawa Film Office team for creating the engaging film-themed quiz via Kahoot!, that brought the audience together, sparked conversation, and added a fun and interactive element to the evening. We were also honoured to feature video messages from filmmakers Fitch Jean (Bridging the Gap) and Sonia Boileau (Pour toi Flora), which beautifully showcased the diverse richness of our screen community.

Gratitude to the organizations that shared invaluable historical resources to help tell this story: NFB, Library and Archives Canada , Archives Ottawa, Bytown Museum | Musée Bytown , Monovisions Photography Magazine, Canadian History Ehx Podcast, Jaguar Bird, and Ottawa Black History.

The next chapter of Ottawa's screen legacy is being written today. Thank you to everyone who champions local storytelling and our dynamic film, television, and digital media industry.

Yesterday, the Ottawa Film Office hosted its 2026 AGM and officially ushered in a new chapter with the election of our 2026-2029 Board of Directors.

A massive welcome to our newly elected Board Chair, Tom McSorley (Canadian Film Institute), and new directors Cory Morrison, Phil Sampson, Conor Cronin, and Bruce Raganold!

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to our outgoing Chair, Kelly Haussler, CDME (who remains as Past Chair), and outgoing board members Jeff Westeinde, Chris Wightman, Shane Boucher, and Heather Ryall.

Thank you for your tireless advocacy and foundational contributions to Ottawa's creative economy.

Hier, Le Bureau du cinéma d’Ottawa a tenu son assemblée générale annuelle 2026 et a officiellement ouvert un nouveau chapitre avec l’élection de son conseil d’administration pour la période 2026-2029.

We are incredibly proud of our Film Commissioner, Sandrine De Saint Sardos, for her recent work as a juror for the Youth Media Alliance - Alliance Médias Jeunesse, Banff World Media Festival's the Rockie Awards, and the 2026 International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (International Emmy Awards), keeping Ottawa connected as a world-class hub for film and television.

A massive congratulations to ATO Media Inc. on their win for Gang de hockey - Saison 2! We are especially thrilled to celebrate this series because it was filmed right here in Ottawa.

Its success is a huge testament to our city's incredible local talent, skilled crews, and versatile locations, proving that Ottawa is a premier destination for bringing high-quality youth programming to life. 🏒🏆

We also want to send a huge shoutout to Ottawa-based production company SLALOM, who received a well-deserved nomination for the series CIRKUS 2!

We are also so proud of TFO for taking home three broadcaster awards at the YMA Gala for Couleurs Du Nord, Gang de hockey - Saison 2, and Rebelles. Congratulations to all the Franco-Ontarian creators and artisans behind these bold, inspiring stories!

Thank you to the Youth Media Alliance, Telefilm Canada, and the Canada Media Fund for a wonderful evening celebrating youth media. And a special shoutout to City of Ottawa's Event Central for delivering the essential film permits that help make these local productions possible! 👏

From being shortlisted for "Film Commission of the Year" at the Global Production Awards at the Cannes Film Festival to the ongoing priority of a local soundstage, the future of Ottawa's screen industry is taking big steps.

“The film industry stimulates economic development in creating jobs in film, TV and animation, retaining talents, attracting emerging filmmakers, maintaining growth in areas like hospitality, tourism, and education, and helps raise Canada's Capital profile as a vibrant, creative city.”
