We have these two ladies that found themselves with a deadline at the shelter. They need fosters homes. They come to us next weekend.

If you can foster please apply here

We will also need to continue treatment so donations would be incredibly helpful. Please note the Himalayan needs a quiet home with no children

Taking care of these animals comes at a hefty cost. If you’re in a position to donate toward their care, we would be truly grateful. We’ve been hit hard with medical bills and could really use the help.

Isn’t the cat distribution system wonderful? One cat went home yesterday, and today we’re introducing Annie. Our long time foster Melanie thought she was on a break. The cat distribution system had other plans. This little declawed tabby followed her home. Her information was posted on social media, OHS checked and flyers put up in the neighbourhood. Sadly she remains unclaimed. For now, she’s one of ours. Melanie clearly has a gift: this is the second cat to ask her for help while she was out enjoying a walk. The solution? A bigger house or staying in!

This afternoon, our beautiful momma cat, Yuna, went home to join an equally beautiful family. Les and Sarah welcomed her into their blended crew of three children and two cats: Mom’s tiny Munroe and Dad’s shadow, Luna.
Welcome to the OKR Family, Les and Sarah, and thank you Caroline for being Yuna’s interim family and caring for her as your own.

If you looked at our post a week ago showing the 'nastiness' that was removed during Zerah's spay you will love this update. We will give her a few weeks to fill out and get her skin condition under control and do look forward to placing her as available.

NOT YET AVAILABLE:
Name: Zerah
Gender: F
Breed: DMH
DOB: 13/Mar/2017
Good with cats: Possibly with some cats.
Good with kids: Unknown, likely 12+
Good with dogs: Unknown.
Litter trained: Yes.
Foster UPDATE: A week post-surgery Zerah is already showing big improvements. She has a healthy appetite; no longer needing to be coerced to eat. She has been seeking to sleep curled up in our arms overnight. She’s quiet as a mouse and soft as a cloud. When taken out of her onesie, she does play, but is more interested in voraciously grooming so she has to stay clothed for ideal incision recovery. We cannot wait to share more updates on how her personality unfolds as her healing journey continues - you will fall in love with her, if you haven’t already! Her case of pyometra was not obvious, but she was likely suffering in silent pain. This sweetheart is now blessed with years of healthy cuteness.

Morsel was neutered last Wednesday and he did a great job keeping his cone on. Content to rest and be spoiled with treats! Morsel is a very shy boy and gets most of his human interactions through playtime and staring at you near his food bowl. When he’s relaxed in his canopy bed, he’ll enjoy scritches under his chin from people he trusts. He’s incredibly quiet, food motivated and even comes when called if it means a treat awaits him!

Hard as we try the reality is that not all can be saved. Our little tabby faded and did not make it through the night. Held by her sister as she slept yesterday this is the last photo, we have of her. Grateful thanks and gentle hugs to her foster Mom Shannon who fought alongside her and did everything she could.

NOT AVAILABLE- we will not be responding to adoption inquiries- she is new to care

Deciding they could no longer care for her this petite 5 year old cat was surrendered to a shelter. Considered unsuitable for adoption she would only be released to a rescue so here she is. Meet Astrid . Her ailment – infrequent seizures. Currently prescribed a low dose of medication that controls any episodes.

FOSTER UPDATE: Her personality showed right away. She is a curious little explorer who loves to jump and climb, and she is also very affectionate, often coming over for pets. She plays happily on her own and with us, has a funny little meow, and made herself at home within hours.
After a couple of days, we have a clearer sense of Astrid's personality. She is calm, sweet, and wonderfully low maintenance. She sleeps most of the day pausing now and then to patrol the apartment or bat at a toy. She does not seem very food motivated; she grazes on a few bites throughout the day and is surprisingly light under all that fluff. Although she does not love her seizure medication, it has been easy to give her. Astrid has immediately captured our hearts, she is such a sweetie.
