From the Karagiozis performance at the Greek School

Parnassos was delighted to welcome to Ottawa, all the way from Cyprus and with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, the renowned Cypriot puppeteer John Pafios and his assistant, Sotiris Polyviou.

On May 2, they presented two traditional shadow theatre (Karagiozis) performances. In the morning, they entertained students at the Hellenic School of Ottawa, where the children responded with great enthusiasm to Karagiozis’ playful tricks.

Later that evening, they performed “I Will Take the Uphill Path – Evagoras Pallikaridis” at the Hellenic Community of Ottawa. Through the art of Karagiozis, the performance sought to bring to life the journey and sacrifice of the young Cypriot hero of the Cypriot Liberation Struggle.

This evening (February 23), we had the pleasure of hosting Samuel Boudreau, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto, in collaboration with the Department of Classics and Religious Studies and the Department of Philosophy. Samuel spoke to us about Aristotle’s Metaphysics, clarifying some of its central ideas and making the thought of Aristotle more accessible to all in attendance.
