Ottawa Black Mental Health Coalition

Ottawa Black Mental Health Coalition We are a network of Black leaders in academics, health and social services, and community association

Our group of leaders are committed to dismantling the systemic barriers that exist within our mental health system which prevent Black people from accessing culturally appropriate mental health supports and resources. This coalition aims to hold health system leaders accountable to ensuring safe, accessible, and culturally appropriate mental health programs and services for the African, Caribbean,

Black community in Ottawa. Our members believe that we can build on the resilience that already exists in our African, Caribbean and Black communities through collaboration and advocacy for equitable access to appropriate mental health support and a more diverse and inclusive mental health system.

A milestone worth celebrating.

The Advancing African, Caribbean, and Black Perinatal Mental Health Module has officially launched.

Created through collaboration, community wisdom, research, and lived experience, this module is designed to support more equitable and culturally responsive perinatal mental healthcare for African, Caribbean, and Black birthing communities.

We're also pleased to share that our Community Report is now available, highlighting key findings from our qualitative study with Black birthing people and perinatal service providers.

To everyone who contributed their knowledge, expertise, feedback, and time throughout this project: thank you. Your voices helped shape this work and will continue to influence meaningful change in perinatal mental health care.

While this marks the conclusion of the ACB-PMH project, it is far from the end of the journey. We look forward to future opportunities to work together in advancing health equity and improving outcomes for Black birthing communities.

Explore the module, read the report, and share these resources with your networks.
