Today at 12:00pm open burning is permitted from dawn till dusk, until April 15 2027, or when orders are rescinded.

Before burning:
-Check the Venting Index
-Follow BC guidelines on burn pile size & contents
-Get a permit for your burn area
-Supervise your pile at all times

The public can access the daily venting forecast via an automated toll-free telephone line at 1-888-281-2992.

We’re heading into mating season for our mountain deer, elk and moose. Remember to always keep your distance and keep your dogs leashed and under control to avoid a negative interaction.

🦌 The rut is approaching!

As the days get shorter, deer prepare for their fall breeding season, known as the rut.

You may notice bucks rubbing their antlers on shrubs, displaying dominance or locking antlers with other males. These are natural seasonal behaviours, and giving deer space helps keep everyone safe.

🐾 Keep dogs leashed and under control.
🦌 Enjoy watching deer from a distance. Never approach or feed them.
🚗 Watch for deer crossing roads, especially at dawn and dusk.

Understanding their behaviour helps us keep wildlife wild and communities safe!

Join us at the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department on September 27 for the RDOS Pop-Up Open House!

Stop by to meet RDOS staff, ask questions, learn about local services and projects, and pick up helpful FireSmart, emergency preparedness, Voyent Alert!, and Emergency Support Services information.

We’ll also be hosting an AMFD recruitment drive. If you’ve ever considered joining the fire department and serving your community, this is a great opportunity to meet the team and learn more.

Did you know…

This is why it’s so important to secure attractants. As we move into fall, our bears are focused on finding high calorie food. And their ability to find food influences many behavioural and physiological processes. Let’s all do our part to keep our bears safe, out of trouble and wild 🐻❤️.

Let’s keep up the great work and ensure all attractants are safely stored and addressed. Our mountain bears and safety of the community depend on it. 🐻❤️

We are currently seeing an increase in the number of bears within and around the town of Golden, with many getting into garbage and eating fruit from trees. It is so important that we do our part to avoid food conditioning any wildlife. Here are some important tips:

•Remember to pick fruit early and let it ripen indoors
•If you have an abundance of fruit and would like to donate it, feel free to send us an email at [email protected] and we can connect you with the right organisations.
•Prune trees to keep them manageable in size
•You may also want to consider electric fencing to prevent bears or other wildlife from accessing your fruit.

Remember to be ‘bear aware’ when out and about in the backcountry, walking our subdivision roads or on your property.

Our bears are focused on food to put on the pounds before winter and may not notice you before a close encounter occurs.
