Durham Outlook for the Needy

Durham Outlook for the Needy Durham Outlook for the Needy supports people experiencing the immediate needs, ongoing effects, and underlying causes of poverty and food insecurity.

Programs Update
In the spring of 2014, Durham Outlook purchased property at 227 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa - the future site of the new Durham Outlook. We are excited to announce our GRAND OPENING was on March 10th, 2022, and we are now in our new facility. Our new building addresses the immediate needs, ongoing effects, and underlying causes of poverty and food insecurity under one roof. The n

ew Durham Outlook is a fully accessible and barrier-free space, ensuring no one is left behind. The new Durham Outlook will house four program streams:

Soup Kitchen - Durham Region's only full-service barrier free soup kitchen. With the leadership of nearly 500 volunteers a month Durham Outlook serves between 150 to 250 meals per day, approximately 55,000 to 65,000 meals per year. Through partnerships with other non-profit organizations and local churches, meal tickets are distributed free-of-charge to individuals and families experiencing poverty and food insecurity. For those unable to access free tickets, we serve them anyway. No one is ever turned away. We served our first meal on October 15, 1990. Second Hand Store - We receive donated gently used clothing and other items and sell them at a reasonable cost. All income generated from the store is used to fund our operations. We accept donations with some guidelines. Please reach out for more information if you are interested in donating items to our second-hand store. [email protected]

Food Distribution Program - Is a vital part for DOFN to support both ourselves and other organizations to ensure our patrons are getting food, essential items, and support during these hard times. Daily, a volunteer driver picks up food and other dry goods from corporations, institutions and individuals for our fellow food banks, charities, groups, and schools, who offer breakfast and lunch programs for students in need. Durham Outlook for the Needy helps over 50 organizations monthly. The Food Bank Program - Every Saturday patrons will be able to attend from 1pm-3pm with a grocery list of items required. Volunteers will fill bags for each patron addressing their specific required food needs. We also hand out clothing, toiletry items and other necessities. Side door, 227 Simcoe St S. Thank You To Everyone For Your Heartwarming, Kind, And Amazing Support During These Hard but Exciting Times.
