The Msenwa Foundation

The Msenwa Foundation Inspiring resilience, hope and possibilities by empowering widows, children and youth through
financial, educational and other supports

The Msenwa Foundation was born out of the ministry of Grandpa Msenwa Atanda, who dedicated his life to caring for and ministering to widows and orphans in DR Congo and in Nyarugusu refugee camp (Kigoma, Tanzania). Before his death in 2005 in Nyarugusu refugee camp, he entrusted this vision to his grandson, Msenwa Oliver Mweneake. Eleven years later, this vision is rebirthed through The Msenwa Foun

dation. The Msenwa Foundation is awaiting charitable status with the Canada Revenue Agency. The Msenwa Foundation envisions to inspire resilience, hope and possibilities in the children, youth and widows we serve. Our mission is to empower marginalized children, youth and widows to discover their full potential through educational sponsorship, micro-loans, entrepreneurial training and other social supports. The Msenwa Foundation is founded upon respect for the people and rich cultures of the African continent. We are committed to ensuring that our programs directly reflect the priorities and needs that local children, youth and widows voice. Furthermore, the children, youth and widows that we serve are an integral part of our decision-making. Core Values

Integrity and Accountability – The MF has the highest level of integrity in its administrative, service, and outreach activities; we tie these activities directly to our mission, and we maintain and report our records accurately. Individualized Support – The MF knows that people’s needs vary significantly and can change over time; we seek to understand the individual beneficiary and co-create the right supports for each person’s development. Caring Attitude – The MF demonstrates compassionate support and concern for people in need and their families. As a part of this caring attitude, we educate and inform beneficiaries and their communities. Our Strategies

The following overarching strategies form the basis for the Msenwa Foundation programs:

Operational Support – Providing resources for operational support of our Congolese partners. This will involve monthly support that will cover expenses for running the schools and orphanages as well as food and housing expenses. Education – Investing in improving the infrastructure of African Rural Schools that provide education to vulnerable children. In addition, we intend to transform communities through sponsoring the education of vulnerable children and youth. Sustainable Projects – Expanding our investment in sustainable projects in the communities serving widows, orphans and youth. This may include school buildings, housing, farming, small businesses and other projects that will provide sustainable growth.
