🇵🇹 Volunteers Needed for Fiesta Week 2026 🇨🇦

Fiesta Week is coming up, and preparations are underway for one of our biggest annual events celebrating our Portuguese culture, food, music, and community.
We are asking members and students looking for volunteer hours to help make this year’s event a success for the Centre and the City of Oshawa.

📍 Street Festival
Sunday, June 21, 2026
12 PM to 6 PM
Centre St., from King St. to Memorial Park
NPCC will have a booth selling baked goods, confectionery, and drinks.

📍 Northern Portugal Pavilion
Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27, 2026
5:30 PM to 11 PM
Traditional Portuguese food, desserts, merchandise, and folklore performances.
Saturday, June 27 will also include folklore performances at 6 PM and 7 PM, followed by the Portugal vs. Colombia FIFA World Cup match starting at 7:30 PM.

Volunteer help needed:

Tuesday, June 16 at 6 PM
Ceiling and wall decorations

Sunday, June 21
9 AM to 11 AM, street festival setup
11 AM to 5 PM, selling items
After 5 PM, takedown

Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23
Afternoon and evening hall decorating and table setup

Wednesday, June 24
Evening food preparation and final hall setup

Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27
Kitchen helpers needed morning, afternoon, and evening
This year, we especially need help in the kitchen. Even a few hours would make a big difference.

A Huge (and fashionably late) congratulations!
They say good things come to those who wait, but in this case, we just wanted to let the excitement from the ACAPO Gala Dinner on March 28th simmer a little longer!

Celebrate Portuguese heritage in Oshawa!
Join us on May 8 as we honour the history and vibrant culture of Portuguese immigration to Canada. This is a day for our community to come together, celebrate our heritage, and support an important cause.

Schedule
• 4:00 PM: Flag Raising Ceremony at Oshawa City Hall.
• Reception to follow: Northern Portugal Cultural Centre for an evening of tradition and music.

Entertainment
• Traditional Folclore performance by Rancho do Minho de Oshawa.
• Live musical performance by Sara Dantas.

Admission & reservations
Admission is free, though we kindly encourage donations at the door.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Magellan Community Foundation, an organization dedicated to building a culturally tailored long-term care home and affordable housing for our seniors.

NPCC is now accepting submissions for Miss NPCC 2026/2027 and Mini Miss NPCC 2026/2027.

The Northern Portugal Cultural Centre Board of Directors invites eligible candidates to apply for the opportunity to represent our club.

Miss NPCC 2026/2027
Eligible candidates are asked to submit their name, contact information, and a brief outline explaining why they would like to represent NPCC to [email protected]

Mini Miss NPCC 2026/2027
Parents interested in having their daughter represent the club are asked to submit their name, contact information, and birthdate to [email protected]
If there is more than one eligible Mini Miss entry, the selection will be made by draw.

Submission deadline:
Thursday, April 2, 2026

Miss NPCC eligibility:
• Must be an NPCC member in good standing
• Must be 16 to 21 years old as of Saturday, May 9, 2026
• Must be single, never married, not in a common law or domestic partnership, and have no children
• Must be a resident of Durham Region
• Must be available for:
• Queens Court Ball on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 1:00 PM to Midnight
• Mandatory dress rehearsal on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Fiesta Concert on Sunday, June 21, 2026
• Fiesta Week from June 22 to 27, 2026 as an NPCC ambassador
• Previous Miss NPCC titleholders cannot participate in 2 consecutive years

Mini Miss NPCC eligibility:
• Must be an NPCC member in good standing
• Must be 5 to 8 years old as of Saturday, May 9, 2026
• Must be a resident of Durham Region
• Must be available for:
• Queens Court Ball on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 6:00 PM
• Fiesta Concert on Sunday, June 21, 2026
• Fiesta Week from Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27, 2026 as an in house junior ambassador
