A beauty story about Whitby Resident, Alison Salim, her passion for knitting and her love for her community.
During the pandemic, I sent out a message and she answered the call to support patients with dementia. With love and compassion she became one of the #1 sensory blanket makers.
Due to pandemic restrictions, using protocol, she helped her community with open arm kindness and generosity. Citizens, like Alison Salim of Whitby, Ontario were one of many, as well Helping Hands from Cobourg, who not only made a difference in their community, but their generosity to others, during the most unprecedented times, were as well the inspiration and strength to nurses, like myself, during the hardest part of the pandemic.
Thank you Thank you 🙏
Alison Salim’s sensory blankets were distributed to 5 of LHO’s, in winter of 2020 to wards to support patients with dementia. A time when patients needed them the most.
Alison Salim also made afghans for the Durham Region Cancer Center and now is involved in “ Project Linus”( Ajax/ Pickering Chapter). They are known as the BLANKTEERS. Blankets are knitted for children up to 17 years of age.
I want to take this time to celebrate this beautiful person and her contribution to her community. I am blessed to finally meet the lady behind the door. The pandemic had kept us apart, but now we embraced each other for the first time. I am not only lucky to have a wonderful friend but the community is blessed when they have citizens like Alison Salim.
Special thanks to “Phil”, another person who randomly offered to buy our teas in Tim Hortons, a time when we united to meet for the first time, in person, since the 3 years of isolation. Thank you Phil.
