Scouts Canada - White Pine Council

Scouts Canada - White Pine Council As a Council within Scouts Canada, White Pine Council is dedicated to delivering an adventurous program to the Youth that they will remember for a lifetime

Symbolism of the Crest

Scouts Canada's Mission Statement [in 1997] emphasized the organization's dedication to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spritual potential. The White Pine Council crest has several symbolic features depicting the various aspects of this holistic approach to youth development. Physical - the strong lone White Pine gr

owing on the rock symbolizes two things:

Individuality - opting to choose the more challenging path of growing on the rock opposed to the natural choice of the grass. Strength and Perseverance - developing the strength and the iron will to make something happen. In this case, the ability to grow on the rock. Intellectual - the water all around the White Pine symbolizes all of life's mysteries that constantly surround us. The calm water illustrates the intellectual sense that a Scout develops to solve these mysteries and keep the waters calm. Spiritual - the setting sun depicts peace and tranquility. It symbolizes the inner peace and spiritual understanding that one can come to terms with through Scouting. The colour scheme used in the design is a representation of all the Scouting sections - this symbolizes inclusiveness. Scouting is available to all those wishing to participate. It may also be noted that the outdoor landscape represents one of Scouting's key learning resources as well as the fact that the majority of the Region is rich in natural resources.

We are offering an additional day of Range Line Safety Officer (RLSO) training course Sunday, January 11th to adult (18+) members in good standing of Scouts Canada or Girl Guides of Canada who missed the first 2 sessions. It is highly recommended that each group who regularly attends the range at Camp Samac should send at least 1 registered Scouter or Guider who will run ranges for all their sections. The course is intended for serious volunteers only who plan to run ranges either for their own group or for a group who does not have an RLSO. This is not a general interest course.

Please note, there is also a change in fees for booking the range. If your group has their own RLSO they will be charged $4 per participant with a minimum of 10 participants. If a group does not have their own RLSO they will be charged $10 per participant with a minimum of 10 participants.
There is no cost for this course. Only Camp Samac certified pellet RLSOs can run a pellet range at Camp Samac. You can be qualified to run outdoor archery for Camp Samac at the Woodland Trails course.

The training Session will be offered on Sunday January 11th.

The morning session will be for Pellets from 9am-12pm and the afternoon session will be for Archery from 1pm-4pm. Click to register for January 11th, 2026.

2024-25 Certified RLSOs may qualify to write the exam at 9:00 am on any of the 2 days and not need to attend the training again if they have run a range for another group other than their own this past year. Please note: This will be the last year we will offer the option of just writing the test as we will not be calling on you to run ranges for other groups. There will be an option for other groups calling upon you if they do not have their own RLSO. If they can arrange for a qualified RLSO from the pool, they will only be charged the $4.

There will be limited space so please register early.
