The Roger Miller Foundation RMF provides an annual scholarship for two volleyball players in New Brunswick, both male and female

The Roger Miller Foundation provides annual scholarships for a male and female volleyball players in New Brunswick who demonstrates high academic achievement, leadership on and off the court along with an elite skill set, in addition to community involvement. These scholarships are funded by annual beach volleyball tournaments and generous donations. The scholarship application are available for a

pplicants in March of their graduating year and winners are selected in June by the Selection Board. This board encompasses individuals who have various affiliations within the New Brunswick volleyball community.

2025 Roger Miller Foundation Scholarship Winner: Mya Barkhouse
Hometown: Dieppe, NB
High School: École Mathieu-Martin
Going to play for: l’Université Sainte-Anne (ACAA) .vbf

Mya’s application was monumental in every way. Her academic excellence throughout her high school years has set her up to pursue a diplôma préparatoire en sciences de la santé at l’Université Sainte-Anne this fall, with hopes of pursuing a career in Optometry.

While continuing her journey of becoming an Optometrist, Mya will be representing les Dragons this Fall. On top of being a top academic student, Mya was named 2025 VNB sports Person of the Year. To top it all off, Mya has managed to accumulate over 100 hours of community service during her senior year alone on top of working part time at an optometry clinic.

It is because of Mya’s versatility, leadership, and exceptional academics that she was selected as a winner for the 2025 Roger Miller Scholarship.

2025 Roger Miller Foundation Scholarship Winner: Alex Bourque
Hometown: Dieppe, NB
High School: École Mathieu-Martin
Going to play for: University of New Brunswick - Fredericton (AUS)

Alex is a passionate student-athlete who will be pursing an Engineering degree at UNB, where he will join the Varsity Reds Men’s Volleyball Team in the Fall. Most notably, Alex was named Volleyball New Brunswick’s (VNB) Male Indoor Athlete of the Year in 2024, MVP of his high school team, and was an All Star at the 2023 Canada Cup.

In addition, Alex involves himself with several community endeavors including local volleyball programs, school activities, and food insecurity in Dieppe. It is because of these impressive qualities that we are thrilled to name Alex one of the 2025 Roger Miller Foundation Scholarship winners.

2024 Scholarship winner: Finn McMorran .mcmorran
While representing Fredericton High School, Reds Club program and VNB, Finn is also a current National Beach Champion and has been selected for the Canada Games beach volleyball training roster. Additionally, Finn was named VNB Male Athlete of the Year (indoor) and, along with his beach partner, was selected as VNB Male Team of the Year (Beach) for the 2023-2024 season. This fall Finn will be playing for UNB as a setter, where he will pursue an Engineering degree.

Finn impresses both on and off the court, with his academics being just as strong as his court presence. He also volunteers on many fronts and is looking forward to volunteering with the UNB men’s volleyball team for the years to come.

It is because of Finn’s dominant leadership, competitive nature and lifelong commitment to the sport that he was selected as this year’s Roger Miller Foundation Scholarship winner.

2024 Scholarship winner: Sophy Soderman
While representing Leo Hayes High School, Reds Volleyball Club, and VNB, Sophy has also been selected to the Canada Games beach volleyball training roster and was a finalist for the 2023-2024 Female Athlete of the Year for both beach and indoor volleyball. Sophy will be pursing her dream of becoming a Doctor by starting a Bachelor of Science at UNB this fall while playing for the UNB Women’s volleyball team.

In addition to being a big sw***er on the court, Sophy has been able to maintain a very high academic average while being a member of several volunteering efforts, making her the applicant with the highest volunteer hours per week in our scholarship history.

Sophy’s dedication to her community, her undeniable love for the sport and academic excellence secured her as the winner of the 2024 Roger Miller Foundation Scholarship.
