This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our legal clinic was honoured to attend events in Orillia and Bobcaygeon. We are grateful to the survivors, families and community members who shared their stories and reflections, and we join in honouring survivors and remembering the children who never came home.

Survivors of Ontario’s former Training Schools may now be eligible for compensation through a recently approved class action settlement.

A recent article from Kawartha Lakes Weekly shares the experiences of survivors of the Kawartha Lakes School for Girls in Lindsay and highlights the lasting impact these institutions had on the children and youth who were sent there.

Our own Lisa Loader, senior staff lawyer, spoke with Kawartha Lakes Weekly about the settlement and the importance of ensuring survivors know about their right to seek compensation.

Thank you for your service, Rachel! We are lucky to have Rachel as a director of the Legal Clinic.

🧡💚 Thank You, Rachel!

After almost 5½ years of dedicated service to Central Food Network — and especially to Heat Bank — Rachel is moving on to a new chapter. Her last day with us will be Thursday, September 10.

Rachel has been instrumental in maintaining the trusted service that Heat Bank clients rely on, while also helping to expand its impact across our community. Her dedication to clients has always gone far beyond the requirements of her role. She has supported individuals and families through some of their most difficult times, always bringing compassion, thoughtfulness and a deep commitment to social justice.

Rachel has also helped strengthen CFN's programs and the broader service network in our community. She played an important role in developing our Hamper Delivery service and CVITP program, represented CFN on the Human Services & Justice Coordinating Committee (HSJCC), and contributed to efforts by the County of Haliburton to strengthen local service provision.

Rachel has a remarkable ability to knit things together — whether that's creating a thoughtful plan for an individual client, bringing partners together around a shared challenge, or finding ways to make a program work better for the people it serves.

She leaves CFN and our community stronger because of her efforts, and we will be forever grateful for her dedication, attention to detail, planning skills, compassion and commitment.

While we are very sorry to see Rachel go, we respect her decision and wish her every success and happiness in what comes next. ❤️
