Caring for protected land takes a community. 🌿

Following recent vandalism at Grant’s Woods Nature Reserve, our team acted quickly to address the damage, including closing the composting toilet while additional attention was needed.

When ServiceMaster of Orillia heard what had happened, they stepped up and offered to donate professional sanitation services to help with the cleanup. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and for the reminder of what community support can look like.

Grant’s Woods welcomes an estimated 7,000 visitors each year, and caring for this special place takes all of us. Whether it’s volunteering, reporting an issue, treating the property with care, or supporting our work through a donation, every contribution helps us continue protecting and caring for the places our community loves.

The Eldridge Nature Reserve is officially unveiled!

At 200-acres in size, this landscape includes rock barren, sedge marsh and forest. It is home to at least 26 Species at Risk.

A big thank you to Creative Nomad Studios for donating office chairs and computer monitors to the Couchiching Conservancy! 💚

At first glance, office chairs and computer monitors might not seem like conservation tools. But protecting nature for future generations takes more than boots on the ground - it takes the people, spaces, and everyday tools that allow the work to happen.

From researching properties and managing conservation projects to connecting with supporters and caring for the land, these foundational tools help our team do the work of conservation every day.

We’re grateful for community partners like Creative Nomad who understand that every contribution can help build a stronger foundation for protecting the places we love.

Caring for the land isn’t always the work you see.
Our staff spend a lot of time caring for the places we protect - monitoring properties, maintaining trails, looking after facilities and making sure these special places are safe and welcoming for everyone.
And sometimes, caring for the land means dealing with something we never planned for.
Recently, one of our composting toilets at Grant’s Woods Nature Reserve was vandalized. What followed was a pretty unpleasant cleanup and some unexpected work for our team.
It’s frustrating. But more importantly, it’s a reminder that as a charity, every unexpected expense means resources being directed away from the conservation work we’ve planned.
We rely on community support to protect nature for future generations - and that support helps us handle the unexpected, too.
