Epilepsy changed Mallory McDonald’s life. It didn’t change her determination to build a future. 💜

Diagnosed with epilepsy in 2023 while completing her social services diploma, Mallory faced seizures, uncertainty and the challenge of adjusting to life with epilepsy. But she refused to let her diagnosis define what came next.

Today, Mallory is studying criminology at Trent University and is one of four Ontario students awarded a $1,500 Epilepsy Ontario scholarship, sponsored by Waymo.

Her goal is to become a 9-1-1 operator and help people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Mallory also hopes to use her own experience with epilepsy to educate others, reduce stigma and help people living with epilepsy feel **understood and supported rather than embarrassed or alone.

Her story is a powerful reminder that epilepsy can be part of someone’s story without defining who they are or what they can achieve.

Hear how the brain stores and retrieve's memories, why some memories carry more "weight" than others, why is sleep important for optimization of memory, and why do some memories seem strongly associated with sensations such as sound and smell.
