This is what we're up against after four years of diligent work by the Town of Caledon, the Aggregate Resources Community Working Group, numerous residents, and our group to create modern, evidence-based aggregate policies.
At the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference in August 2025, the Town of Caledon met with Minister Harris to present the issues facing Caledon regarding aggregates.
Six months later, at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference, the Minister refused to meet with the Mayor, Councillors and staff. This was especially frustrating as Caledon is a TAPMO (Top Aggregate Producing Municipalities of Ontario) member and Caledon is acknowledged across the province as being the leader in reforming aggregate policies.
The Province instead overrode the Town’s progressive policies, sent a threatening letter about the Town’s continuing policy work, and then would not even return a phone call when the Town attempted to discuss the matter.
Four years of local expertise, public participation, and collaborative policymaking—dismissed with the stroke of a pen.
