Stratas is pleased to announce M. Belen Blasco, MD, as a recipient of the 2024 Magna International Award ($2,100) 🎉🥳.

Dr. Blasco, a PhD candidate at McGill University, is leading innovative research exploring how changes in brain synapses might help identify psychosis in its earliest stages and reveal key risk factors.

Her project uses advanced brain imaging techniques to study how connections between neurons, or synapses, may be altered in individuals at early stages of psychosis.

By examining these changes, Dr. Blasco seeks to understand how disruptions in brain connectivity could contribute to the onset of psychotic disorders and whether lifestyle factors, such as cannabis use, may impact these brain structures.

Ultimately, her work aims to improve early identification and guide more effective treatment approaches in psychosis, with the hope of achieving better long-term outcomes.

We're thrilled to announce Trinity Vey, MSc, as the winner of the Stratas Foundation’s 2024 Town of Aurora Scholarship ($5,000) 🎉.

Trinity, a medical student at the University of Toronto and student researcher at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is leading vital research to improve early psychosis intervention (EPI) programs.

Her work focuses on developing better ways to capture and understand the experiences of patients receiving EPI services and their families.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the Town of Aurora for their generous support in establishing this scholarship.

Who We Are

Stratas is a small team of university graduates and former students who share a deep concern for the state of mental health in our homes, communities, and campuses. We are a registered nonprofit organization transforming mental health in Canada through research and discovery.

Stratas is a volunteer-run organization awarding scientific grants to early career scholars in Canada making discoveries in understanding the causes and improving the treatments of mental disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity, bipolar, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress.

We recognize everyone's right to a healthy mind, and to accessible and effective mental health care. We also recognize the responsibility we share in creating a world where this is possible.
