Congratulations to our most recent SOSS Student of the Month, Zay Yuzon!

"I am truly honoured to be nominated as Rotary Student of the Month. It’s something I never expected, and I am very thankful for the recognition.

The Rotary motto “Service Over Self” reminds me that helping others always brings good back into your life. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s day, and I try to live by that every day.

My name is Zay, and I’m a 16‑year‑old student at SOSS. I work part‑time at Pizza Rolla, and one of the things I love most is helping others. Whether it’s a customer or a coworker, I try to make their day a little brighter. I’ve learned that helping someone
with a genuine smile is one of the best things you can give. It shows them you care—and when they smile back, it means a lot to me.

At school, I push myself academically, and I’m always ready to support my classmates. If someone needs help, I try to be there. A few encouraging words or a bit of guidance can make a huge difference, especially for someone who might be struggling.

I also volunteer in the school garden, which has become one of my favourite ways to give back. Helping maintain the garden adds beauty to our school grounds and strengthens our sense of community. It feels good to contribute to something that everyone at SOSS
can enjoy.

A quote that inspires me is:

“Helping others is one of the ways you can repay God for creating you and bringing you into this beautiful world.” To me, helping others is a form of gratitude—a way to say “thank you” to the Lord through kindness and action.

A Bible verse that guides me is Galatians 6:2:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

This reminds me that we are meant to support and care for one another, especially when someone is going through a tough time.

This is who I am, and this is what “Service Over Self” means to me: choosing kindness, offering help, and doing what I can to make the world around me a little better."

Well done, Zay!
