Okotoks Raiders Lacrosse Association Our Mission

To develop and promote the sport of Lacrosse while teaching and reinforcing respect, commitment and teamwork in a fun and safe environment

The OMLA was founded by Dana Robinson and Brad Banister in 1995. In this first Season, Okotoks had two teams: a PeeWee team and a Bantam team. Dana and Brad coached both teams. As registration came around for the third season, summer hockey became popular, and Lacrosse lost their players to the summer hockey program in 1997. However, not ones to give up, Dana and Brad started lacrosse again in Ok

otoks in 1999. That Season, they had three teams, a Novice team, a PeeWee team and a Bantam team. Dana and Brad were the coaches for all three teams! With each following season, registration increased. The 2000 Season had 77 players making up five teams and the 2001 Season had 147 players making up ten teams. In 2002, 224 players registered for lacrosse fielding fifteen teams: two Tyke, three Novice, four PeeWee, 5 Bantam and one Midget team. Dana and Brad continued to coach but fortunately found lots of help and no longer had to coach all fifteen teams! In 2001 Brad was successful in securing an NLL franchise, I'm sure you've heard of them, The Calgary Roughnecks! Again Brad hung on, promoting the sport and his team guiding it to the NLL Championship title in 2004. Now in its 9th year and a solid fan base, it has helped grow the sport of lacrosse throughout the province. In 2002, Okotoks Masters Lacrosse was founded by Lloyd Drews and the Okotoks Junior program was formed with its first Junior B Tier II team. Since then lacrosse has been growing, with people realizing the importance in developing young athlete's skills by enrolling them in multiple sports. The Okotoks Mustangs have since brought home many Championships, and have been represented by our players on the National team, just a small example of the calibre of lacrosse we have, and will continue to have in Okotoks. We continue to honor our founders each year at the "Spring Classic" tournament by presenting the tournament Champions the Banister, and the Robinson Cups.

Field Lacrosse this Summer!

Introducing the Alberta Lacrosse Celebration Weekend
July 25–27 | Four Seasons Park, Sylvan Lake

This is our first event of the 2026 AFLA Festival Series — and we picked Sylvan Lake on purpose.

Central Alberta is the heart of lacrosse in this province. It’s home to the 2026 Prairie Cup, one of the best box lacrosse tournaments in the country, and some of the most passionate lacrosse families we know. We wanted our first festival to land right in the middle of that energy. That’s why we’re calling it the Alberta Lacrosse Celebration Weekend — because that’s exactly what it is.

The Schedule
All divisions U7–U19 play Friday through Sunday. Every team gets a minimum of 5 games plus playoffs — more meaningful lacrosse than most kids get in an entire season.

We also built the schedule around Prairie Cup, being held this year in Red Deer. Divisional games will be timed so families can move between both events. Sylvan Lake and Red Deer are a short drive apart. We’re planning to bus kids from the fields to catch their friends playing Prairie Cup — and back again. You won’t have to choose. That was the whole point.

Picture this: 50 field lacrosse kids, their parents, and their siblings rolling into the arena to cheer on their friends competing for a Team Alberta North or South. That’s an atmosphere. That’s what lacrosse in Alberta looks like when we do it together.

And for teams coming in from Manitoba and Saskatchewan — welcome to Alberta. This is how we do it here.

We’re not asking anyone to choose between field and box. We built the weekend so you don’t have to.

The Experience
This is a festival, not a field day. On-site all weekend: a lacrosse farmers market with local and national brands, skills competitions, food trucks, exclusive event merchandise, and music.

Why Sylvan Lake?
Simple. If we’re going to celebrate lacrosse in Alberta, Central Alberta is where we start.

More details coming soon. Save the date.

Congratulations 🎉

This is a great physical reminder for everyone!

This is a great physical reminder for everyone!

Calgary District Lacrosse is launching a new initiative to support our young officials.

You may see a Green Arm Band worn by officials under the age of 18. This is not an indication of experience — it simply identifies age and serves as a reminder to all participants and spectators:

Respect the officials. Protect the game.

Our young officials are learning, developing, and giving back to the sport they love. Without them, there is no game.

Let’s lead by example:
Respect from the stands
Respect from the bench
Respect on the floor

Together, we create a safe and positive environment for all involved in lacrosse.
