Our founder, Chris Cederstrand, recently took on an incredible challenge at the Ice Climbing World Cup in Edmonton. 🧊🧗‍♂️

Chris is taking part in events like this to help build awareness for adaptive sport and advocate for greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities, with a long term goal of seeing more adaptive disciplines included in future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

After giving ice climbing a try, Chris said he absolutely loved the experience and called it one of the toughest challenges he’s taken on yet!

Pushing limits, opening doors, and helping grow inclusive sport.

Grateful nights like this remind us why community matters so much. ❤️

Some of The Cederstrand Foundation board members and committee gathered for a social evening at the Cederstrands’ home. An evening filled with laughter, connection, and a shared sense of purpose. It wasn’t about agendas or meetings, but about relationships, friendship, and the heart behind the work we do together.

A heartfelt thank you to Chris and Shannon Cederstrand for not only opening their home, but for opening their hearts to this community. The foundation you began is rooted in generosity, compassion, and genuine care, and it shows in every life touched and every person who comes together under its mission.

To be surrounded by people who believe so deeply in giving back, and to be led by individuals who live those values so authentically, is truly inspiring. We are grateful to stand alongside you, support your vision, and be part of something that continues to make a meaningful difference.

Thank you, Chris and Shannon, for your leadership, your kindness, and for reminding us that when people come together with purpose, amazing things happen.

Not everyone was able to be captured in this moment. Some had to leave early, and others couldn’t attend, but your support, commitment, and impact are just as valued and felt. This work is stronger because of each of you.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible committee members, volunteers, players, silent auction donors, Elevate Auctions, Tim Hortons, The Okotoks Oilers, The Western Wheel, Okotoks Online, the Town of Okotoks, Viking Rentals Centre, Trolley 5, and the families and friends who helped along the way. Your generosity and support made the 3rd Annual Sled Hockey event an overwhelming success!

We’re looking forward to next year and so happy that so many of you have joined us in making this an annual tradition! ❤️

3rd Annual Sled Hockey Tournament coming up in a month!

In just over 1 month The Cederstrand Foundation will host its 3rd Annual Sled Hockey Tournament to raise money for those with disabilities who wish to return to sport.

Funds raised from the foundation will be used to purchase adaptive equipment like sleds for sledge hockey, sport chairs, sport prosthetics and more.

The United Nations reports that “The unique ability of sports to transcend linguistic, cultural, and social Barries makes it an excellent platform for strategies of inclusion and adaptation. Furthermore, the universal popularity of sport and its physical , social and economic development benefits make it an ideal tool for fostering the inclusion and well-being of persons with disabilities.
Persons with disabilities often face societal barriers and disability evokes negative perceptions and discrimination in many societies. As a result of the stigma associated with disability, persons with disabilities are generally excluded from education, employment and community life which deprives them of opportunities essential to their social development, health and well-being.”
