Hi! My name is Roni (pronounced “Rowni”), and I’m a 2-year-old purebred Basset Hound looking for a new forever home because my human can no longer care for me. I’m about 45 pounds of floppy ears, sniffing talent, and cuddle expertise. I love people — big humans, little humans, visitors, strangers, and even other
dogs. I’ve also lived peacefully with rabbits! I’m healthy, neutered, and always ready to make new friends.
Some of my favourite things include:
• Walks and sniffing literally everything
• Car rides
• Cheese (the greatest invention of all time)
• Snuffle mats and nose-work games
• Sleeping in the big bed with my humans
• Couch snuggles where nobody expects me to move afterward
Now, I do have a few “classic Basset Hound” qualities. My nose is VERY powerful, and once it catches a scent, my brain sometimes clocks out for a bit. Because of that, I should stay on leash unless I’m in a securely fenced yard. I’m not very street smart, and I could accidentally wander into danger while following an exciting smell.
I can pull on walks when I get excited, but I’m smart and respond really well to patient training, praise, and treats. I also occasionally try to snack on mystery treasures during walks, so my humans need to keep an eye on me to protect my sensitive tummy.
Speaking of my tummy... I LOVE food, but not all foods love me back. Some things upset my stomach, but honestly, cheese still feels worth the risk.
At home, I take my security duties very seriously. When strangers come into the house, I like to announce their arrival loudly and enthusiastically. I may bark and jump because I’m excited, but I settle down quickly when people stay calm and don’t encourage my silliness.
I’m also an early riser and prefer doing all my business outside. Puppy pads? Absolutely not. Those are for Chihuahuas and quitters.
I’m not a huge fan of nail trims or teeth brushing yet, but with patience, treats, and kindness, I know I can improve. I can also get protective of my food around other dogs. If another dog tries to steal my snacks, I may growl or snap to tell them to back off. I’m not trying to hurt anyone — I just believe snacks are sacred. Humans taking things from me is totally okay though.
What I really want is a family who will love me for exactly who I am: sweet, goofy, affectionate, food-motivated, occasionally stubborn, and always entertaining. If you give me a chance, I promise we’ll have adventures, laughs, cuddles, and a whole lot of love.
