We usually meet the 1st Tuesday of the month from 7:30 - 9:00 pm, at Churchill Place, 345 Church St., Oakville. Come out and learn more about Amnesty, write letters, help plan events. Everyone is welcome! (We don’t meet June to Aug or in Dec).
Our group was established in 1981 in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. During our history, we have been assigned 17 Prisoners of Conscience, of whom 12 have been released. Our current Prisoner of Conscience is Huseyin Celil, an ethnic Uighur and Canadian citizen serving a life sentence in China for his activities in support of the rights of the Uighur people.
Movement: Amnesty International is worldwide movement of people dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights. We are building a world in which every person enjoys the rights included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.
